JERSEY CITY, N.J. – The Purple Eagles (12-15, 7-11 MAAC) were defeated by Saint Peter's (14-11, 12-6 MAAC), 63-36, on Sunday afternoon in their final road game of the regular season.
Game Recap
First Half
- The Peacocks went on a 19-2 run over the first seven minutes of the first half.
- A layup from Touba Traore started the Purple Eagles on a 9-0 run, which also included four points from Marcus Hammond and a triple from Greg Kuakumensah, to cut the Saint Peter's lead to eight points, 19-11.
- Kuakumensah sank another 3-pointer and made a jump shot to leave Niagara trailing by 13, 29-16, with 1:35 remaining in the first half.
- The Peacocks led the Purple Eagles, 31-16, at halftime.
Second Half
- Saint Peter's got ahead of Niagara, 35-16, but Hammond scored five straight points to put NU back within 13 points of the Peacocks, 35-22.
- With about 11 minutes remaining, Justin Roberts made a 3-point bucket, but Saint Peter's remained in the lead, 43-29.
- A dunk from Sam Iorio put the Purple Eagles within 17 points of the lead, 48-31.
- Saint Peter's, however, held the Purple Eagles to just five more points in the remainder of the game; two each from Hammond and Jordan Cintron and one from Julian Mackey.
Eagle's Eye On
- Hammond led the Purple Eagles with 14 points, six rebounds, four assists and two steals. He went 4-for-4 from the free throw line.
- Kuakumensah added eight points and four rebounds.
- Iorio brought down five rebounds and had one block.
