Volleyball Falls on the Road To Rider in Final Road Game of Season

Lawrenceville, NJ—The Niagara Volleyball team fell in their final road game of the regular season as they lost in three sets to Rider.
Game Recap
First Set
  • Niagara opened the scoring as they jumped out to a 2-0 lead after kills from Liana Tolliver and Allie Simpson.
  • The two teams were tied at three and kept trading points and the teams were tied at 9-9.
  • Rider went controlled play from there as they limited Niagara to just seven more points in the opening set.
  • Both Laryssa Imbuzerio and Tolliver had three kills in the opening set as Katie Jacobs had an ace in the set.
Second Set
  • Rider opened the set on run in which they took nine of the first 10 points to gain a 9-1 lead.
  • The Broncs went of runs of four or more points twice in the set and did not allow any multi point runs in the set.
  • Simpson and Tolliver were the only two Purple Eagles who had kills in the set as they had three and two respectively.
  • Casey Brown and Imbuzeiro teamed up for a block for the other point for Niagara.
Third Set
  • Niagara took the opening point of the third set but Rider took the next three points to make it 3-1.
  • The two teams traded points as the teams were tied at seven after 14 points.
  • Rider went on a run again as they allowed just single points from the Purple Eagles, Niagara trailed 16-13 but that would be closest they would get to a comeback.
  • The Purple Eagles tallied five more points in the set but could not complete a comeback.
Niagara Notes
  • Tolliver had six kills to lead Niagara in the match while Lexi Bapst was second on the team with five.
  • Brown led the Purple Eagles with 15 assists, while Jacobs had the lone Niagara ace in the match.
  • Kinga Weonska had a game high 18 digs and 32 receptions.
  • Niagara also had five blocks in the match, Imbuzeiro led the way with one solo block and two assists.
Up Next
  • Niagara closes out the regular season next weekend as they host Marist on Saturday and Siena on Sunday.
  • Sunday will be senior day for Niagara.
