Volleyball Falls At Home to Marist

Niagara University, N.Y.—The Niagara Volleyball team opened the final weekend of the regular season by falling to Marist in three sets.
Game Recap
First Set
  • Niagara opened the match with a huge block by the seniors Taylor Allen and Allie Simpson to take the early 1-0 lead in the set.
  • The two teams traded points until it was 3-3 but then the Red Foxes took control of the set.
  • Marist went on a 8-4 run to make it 10-7. Niagara could not comeback as Marist made it a 18-11 lead. Marist took the opening set 25-15.
  • Liana Tolliver and Lexi Bapst led the Purple Eagles with two kills in the first set. Casey Brown had three assists which led the team and Tolliver had a team high five digs.
Second Set
  • The Red Foxes jumped out to a 4-1 lead in the second set and never looked back.
  • The Purple Eagles made it a 9-7 set but could not get any closer. Marist took the second set 25-18.
  • Allen led had a team high four kills in the set as seven different Purple Eagles had kills in the second set. Kylie Blesssing had six kills to lead Niagara in the set while Laryssa Imbuzeiro had two aces in the set.
Third Set
  • Just like the opening set, Allen got the Purple Eagles on the board and took the 1-0 lead.
  • Marist responded by opening up a five point lead to make it 7-2.
  • Niagara kept hanging around in the set as the teams traded points, Niagara cut the lead to one after 25 points as it was 13-12 Marist.
  • The Purple Eagles once again made it a two point set as it was 23-21 Marist, the Red Foxes called timeout and finished off the game following the timeout.
Niagara Notes
  • Tolliver had the most kills on the team with seven while as a team the Purple Eagles had 26 kills. Seven Purple Eagles had kills, all of them had multiple kills.
  • Brown had a team high 11 assists while Blessing had nine assists.
  • As a team Niagara had 13 blocks with Allen leading the way with seven block assists. Imbuzeiro was second on the team with five block assists.
  • Niagara's 24 block assists in the second most they have had in a match this season, they had 28 against Marist on Oct. 16.
Up Next
  • Niagara closes out the regular season tomorrow as they host Siena at 1 PM. Niagara will honor Allen and Allie Simpson as the lone seniors on the team.
