Volleyball Downs Peacocks on the Road in Straight Sets

Jersey City, N.J.—The Niagara Volleyball team notched their sixth MAAC win in three sets over the Saint Peter's Peacocks.
Game Recap
First Set
  • Niagara led right from the start as there was only one point that was tied in the opening set.
  • The Purple Eagles took five of the first seven points which included kills from Liana Tolliver, Lexi Bapst, and Taylor Allen.
  • After the opening 15 points, Niagara held a 10-5 lead.
  • To end the set, Niagara went on a run in which they won 12 of 15 points to win the opening set 25-11.
  • Laryssa Imbuzerio, Allen, and Bapst all had three kills in the opening set while Casey Brown had eight assists.
Second Set
  • Just like the opening set, Niagara jumped out to an early lead as they led 3-1 after the first four points.
  • While holding a 11-6 run, the Purple Eagles went on a five point run to make it 15-7.
  • They followed the run up with a stretch in which they took seven of the next 10 points to have a 13 point lead.
  • Saint Peter's took three straight points to make it 22-12 but Niagara took the last three points to secure the second set victory.
  • In the second set, Imbuzeiro led the way with five kills while five other Purple Eagles also had kills in the set.
  • Imbuzeiro also had three block assists in the set as the Purple Eagles combined for five blocks.
Third Set
  • Niagara opened the third set by winning the first four points to have a 4-0 lead.  Saint Peter's responded with a three point run of their own to make it 4-3.
  • The teams traded runs and points and the set was tied at 12 after the first 24 points of the set.
  • The Purple Eagles responded by taking five of the next six points with three different Purple Eagles earning points.
  • The Purple and While closed out the set with six straight points to secure the match win.
  • Seven Purple Eagles had kills in the set with Jenna Vogen leading the way with two kills.
Niagara Notes
  • This is the second time this season, that the Purple Eagles notched back to back wins.
  • Imbuzeiro led the way with eight kills for the Purple Eagles while Allen was second on the team with seven kills.
  • Both Kelly McArthur and Brown had 12 assists in the game while the team had 32 total assists.
  • Niagara also had eight aces in the match with Brown notching three and Kylie Blessing, and Kinga Wronska having two each.
  • The Purple Eagles hit .237 in the match while limiting the Peacocks to a -.094 hitting percentage. Niagara also had 10 total blocks in the game.
