Volleyball Closes Out Regular Season With Win Over Siena

Niagara University, N.Y.—The Niagara Volleyball team closed out the regular season at home as they hosted Siena at the Gallagher Center. After falling in the opening set, Niagara won the final three sets to close out the regular season with a win.
Game Recap
First Set
  • Niagara opened the set with the first two points and built a 6-1 lead after seven points. Senior Allie Simpson was responsible for the first Niagara kill of the afternoon.
  • After Siena clawed their way back to tie it at fellow senior Taylor Allen got her first kill of the match.
  • The teams traded points until Siena went on a 9-3 run to close out the opening set and win 25-17.
  • In the opening set, there were four times in which the teams were tied. Allen and Liana Tolliver both had two kills in the set while Kinga Wronska had a team high six digs.
Second Set
  • Unlike the opening set, neither team jumped out an early lead as they traded points as it was 8-8 after the opening 16 points.
  • Niagara started to build a lead as they took a 15-11 lead after 26 points in the set.
  • With the score 22-18 Niagara, the Purple Eagles make sure that there wouldn't be a Siena comeback as they scored the final three points of the set.
  • Kelly McArthur and Simpson both had foru kills for Niagara while Allen had two and Laryssa Imbuzeiro had two.
  • McArthur had a set high 10 assists. Wronska also had a team high 15 digs in the set.
Third Set
  • The third set opened with the teams trading points until it was 8-8 in the set.
  • Niagara then built an 18-14 lead in the set and that is all the Purple Eagles needed.
  • Despite six lead changes and the score being tied eight times in the set, Niagara took the set 25-18.
  • Tolliver led the way in the kill department as she had four in the set, McArthur had 20 kills in the match after having six in the third set.
Fourth Set
  • Siena opened the fourth set 6-1 as they were trailing 2-1 in the match.
  • After 15 points in the set, Niagara still trailed by five as they started to claw their way back into the set.
  • Niagara tied it up at 13 and built a 16-13 lead by taking the next three points.
  • Siena ended up tying it at 23 and they took four of five points.
  • After a Purple Eagle timeout, Niagara scored the last two points to close out the set and match.
  • Tolliver once again led the way for Niagara as she had seven kills in the fourth set.
  • Wronska had 11 digs in the fourth set while McArthur had 12 assists. Kylie Blessing was the only other Purple Eagle with an assist in the set as she had three.
Niagara Notes
  • Tolliver led all players with 16 kills while Allen and Simpson were both second on the team nine kills each in their last match at home.
  • McArthur had a match high 32 assists, Blessing followed her with 10 assists of her own.
  • As a team, Niagara had six blocks with Allen and McArthur each having a solo block. Imbuzeiro had three block assists.
  • The Purple Eagles had a .192 hitting percentage in the match while Allen led the way with a .318 hitting percentage.
  • Niagara finishes the regular season with nine wins this season including seven in conference play.

  • All MAAC teams will make the postseason this year as the championships are being held in Lake Buena Vista, FL.
  • Niagara finished the season eighth in the conference and will play Saint Peter's on Wednesday, Nov. 16 at 12:00 PM.
