NIAGARA UNIVERSITY, NY – The Purple and White scored three times in the first half en route to a 3-1 win over Marist (5-7-5, 3-5-2 MAAC) Sunday afternoon in the first round of the MAAC Women's Soccer Championship.

Annie Ibey and
Ebba Noren found the back of the net for the Purple Eagles.
Game Recap
First Half
• The first Niagara (10-7-1, 6-3-1 MAAC) goal came in the 20th minute when
Emma Davies found
Ida Miceli who pump faked the Marist keeper and deposited the ball into the back of the net to give NU an early 1-0 lead.
• In the 24th minute
Emily Hähnel found
Annie Ibey for the goal, giving Niagara a 2-0 lead over Marist.
• Before the end of the half, the Purple Eagles would find the back of the net once more, this time Maia Maclean found
Ebba Noren on a corner kick to give NU the 3-0 advantage.
• The Purple Eagle back line was stout in the first half as they held Marist without a shot in the first half.
Second Half
• The Purple and White seeked to add a fourth goal early on in the second half as Noren and
Zoe Janes both had shots narrowly miss.
• The Red Foxes took their first shot of the contest in the 59th minute of action as Samantha Sturuno has two attempts blocked by the NU defense.
• Marist would get one back, beating
Agnes Stenlund with a long shot in the 72nd minute of play.
• Another long shot in the 76th minute by Marist went out over top the goal to keep the game in favor of the Purple Eagles.
• Ibey nearly got her second goal of the game in the late going poking the ball toward the near side post, but the Red Fox keeper was there to make the play.
Niagara Notes
• The Purple and White advance to the MAAC semifinals for the third time in three years and the first time since 2019.
• Ibey scored her seventh goal of the season, while Miceli and Noren each registered their second of the year.
• Ibey's tally was the 27th of her career, tying her for seventh all-time with Lynn Hepworth '89 and Lydia Hughes '00.
• Hähnel notched her third assist, while MacLean and Davies picked up their second helpers of the year.
• Stenlund earned her fifth win in goal this season.
