FAIRFIELD, CONN. – The Purple and White scored three goals to take down No. 2 Fairfield, 3-1, on the road and advance to the MAAC Women's Soccer Championship against No. 1 Quinnipiac on Sunday, Nov. 6.
Emma Bough,
Ebba Noren, and
Ida Miceli found the back of the net in the victory, while freshman keeper
Agnes Stenlund stopped five to send NU to the conference title game for the first time since 2009.
Game Recap
First Half
• The Purple Eagles had an early goal called offside, taking an
Annie Ibey goal off the board.
• Bough would nearly connect on a chance in the eighth minute of play, but it wasn't until the 31st minute of action that the junior bent one into the top corner of the goal to give Niagara a 1-0 lead over the hometown Stags. Ibey was credited with the assist.
• Miceli looked to give Niagara a 2-0 lead moments before the break but her attempt was stopped center mass by the Fairfield keeper.
• Stenlund made a pair of saves in the first half to keep the Stags off the board.
Second Half
• Niagara once again had a goal taken off the board early on in the half, but it didn't take long to get it back as
Ebba Noren tapped
Maia MacLean's initial shot home to give the Purple and White a 2-0 advantage in the 58th minute.
• Fairfield responded with its first tally of the contest in the 61st minute to cut the NU lead in half.
• Less than a minute later,
Emily Hähnel rifled one off the cross bar and Miceli was there to redirect it into the back of the net for Niagara's third and final goal of the contest.
• Stenlund would make a pair of saves in the final half hour of play to secure NU's 3-1 win.

• The Purple Eagles improve to 11-0 in games where they score first.
• Bough scored her fourth goal of the season, while Noren and Miceli tallied their third goals of the season.
• With her assist on the first goal of the game, Ibey now has six on the season.
• Hähnel recorded her fourth and MacLean notched her third of the year.
