Purple and White Continue Strong Start to Season

NIAGARA UNIVERSITY, NY – The Purple and White continued their fast start to the season as the women's team picked up wins against Youngstown State (167.00-133.00) and Saint Francis (195.00-96.00) and the men's team broke two pool records despite falling to YSU (173.50-126.50).
 
Women's Recap
• The women's team started the day with a Oxy Aquatic Center record in the 400 medley relay as the quartet of Maddie Hudson, Kathryn Brady, Lila Maddux and Nia Thomas recorded a first place time of 4:02.67.
Avery King placed second in the 1000 free with a time of 10:59.79. She also finished sixth in the 200 free and fifth in the 500 free.
• Long-time Purple Eagle, Moana Haude-Camirand started her day with a time of 1:56.62 to win the 200 free. She later placed fifth in the 50 free (25.22), second in the 100 free (54.35), and was a anchor of the 200 free relay that capped the day with a third place finish.
• Sophomore Megan Smith finished third in the 200 back with a time of 2:28.58, while also finishing fifth in the 200 free (2:02.48), and winning the 200 IM with a time of 2:12.44.
• Ania Boydl picked up a pair of second place finishes, the first in the 100 back (1:00.33) and the in the 200 back (2:08.93).
Amanda Silva won the 100 breast with a time of 1:08.17 and picked up a fourth place finish in the 200 breast. She was also a member of the 200 free relay that took third.
• Niagara's Zoe Gavin picked up two top-3 finishes. She placed second in the 200 fly (2:13.47), third in the 100 fly (1:00.00) and
• Sophomore Paige South won the 50 free with a time of 24.51, followed by a fifth-place finish in the 100 fly.
Sydney Sarkis led the Purple Eagle divers with a score of 229.13 on the 3 meter board and a score of 240.38 on the 1 meter board, good enough for second place.
• Brady, who was a member of the 400 medley relay that set a pool record picked up a win in the 200 breast with a time of 2:26.73.
• Hudson also won the 200 back with a time of 2:08.31 and finished fourth in the 100 back.
• Maddux finished the 100 fly with a time of 59.78, beating out a trio of Purple Eagles for second place.
 
Men's Recap
• The men broke two records on the day, the first came in the 50 free when Kevin Vu set a new pool benchmark with a time of 20.97. Vu then helped NU set a new Oxy Aquatic Center best time in the 200 free relay when he teamed up with Levi Morgan, Gio Germano, and Nathan Dragon to finish first with a time of 1:23.58.
• Vu also placed second in the 100 free and 100 fly with times of 47.62 and 50.34, respectively.
• Morgan finished behind Vu in the 100 free with a time of 48.16 for third place.
• Dragon placed third in the 500 free with a time of 4:51.79, shortly behind teammate Riley Dafoe who completed the event in 4:42.31 for second place.
• Dafoe was a member of the Niagara 400 medley relay team that finished second with a time of 3:29.33. He capped off his day with a third place finish in the 1000 free, where Dragon edged him out for second with a mark of 9:54.40.
• Germano added to his win total in the 100 back with a time of 52.24. The junior also picked up a third place finish in the 100 fly.
• Sophomore Reid Tichy won the 200 free with a mark of 1:45.25.
Sean Finley placed second in the 100 breast with a time of 59.53, two spots ahead of Tanner Isaacs who finished fourth. Finley would later finish second in the 200 breast with a time of 2:11.65.
• Jacob Ruffolo completed the 200 fly in 1:59.22 for second place before picking up a win in the 100 free with a time of 47.59, an event Niagara swept the top-3. The first-year Purple Eagle then capped off his afternoon with a second place finish in the 200 IM (1:57.35).
John Furner picked up a score of 236.63 on the 1-meter board and a 280.80 on the 3-meter board.
