Marist Tops Niagara on Final Day of Regular Season

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY The Marist Red Foxes defeated Niagara, 1-0, on the final day of the MAAC women's soccer regular season. The Purple Eagles finish the season 6-3-1 in conference play and 9-7-1 overall.
 
Game Recap
First Half
Amanda Cripps took the games first shot in the opening minute of action but her attempt went wide left.
• Marist tested Agnes Stenlund early with a pair of corners that found the heads of the Red Foxes and nearly the back of the net as a result, but the game would be remain in a nil-nil tie.
• The Red Foxes took 13 total shots in the first half, including one from just inside the 18-yeard box that got past Stenlund for the first goal of the contest in the 23rd minute of play.
Annie Ibey, Emma Bough and Emily Hähnel each puts shots on goal in the first half of play for Niagara. 
 
Second Half
Maia MacLean and Ibey put a trio of shots on target in the first 10-minutes of action to try and tie the contest, but the Marist back line and goalie would keep their 1-0 lead over NU. 
•  Over the next 20-minutes of play Marist would take six shots trying to extend its lead, three were saved by Stenlund and the two were blocked by the Purple Eagle defense
• The Purple and White would take a shot in the 80th minute when Hähnel had her attempt saved by the Marist keeper.
• Niagara's final shot of the contest came off the foot of Emma Bough in the 88th minute of play, but her attempt went high.
 
Niagara Notes
• Niagara will enter the MAAC Women's Soccer Championship as the No. 3 overall seed for the second-straight season.
• Stenlund made a season-high seven saves, bringing her season total to a team-best 37.
• The Purple Eagles took a pair of corners in the contest, compared to seven for the Red Foxes.

• The Purple and White will await the results of the remainder of the MAAC women's soccer schedule to learn its opponent for Sunday's quarterfinal contest on Monteagle Ridge.
