JERSEY CITY, NJ – After a weather delay and field change, the Niagara women's soccer program picked up a 2-0 win over Saint Peter's Saturday afternoon in Jersey City.
Annie Ibey and
Emily Hähnel found the back of the net for the Purple and White and
Agnes Stenlund made five saves in the clean sheet effort.
The Purple Eagles improve to 5-5-1 overall and 2-1-1 in MAAC play with the win.
Game Recap
First Half
• Freshman goalie
Agnes Stenlund made her first save of the contest in the 2nd minute of action, keeping Saint Peter's off the board early.
•
Nikki van Wees took the first shot of the game for NU, but the attempt was saved by the Peacock keeper.
• Stenlund made another save in the 15th minute to keep the game scoreless early on.
• Transfer
Lauren DiPietro nearly put the Purple Eagles on the board in the 18th minute, but her shot was stopped by the SPU goalie.
• Ibey took a shot in traffic in the 24th minute of play, but the attempt was blocked by the Peacock defense.
• Moments later, Ibey would get another chance, this time finding the back of the net to give NU a 1-0 lead on the road.
Second Half
• After an hour delay and field change, the Purple and White returned to the pitch with a 1-0 lead over SPU.
• Stenlund was tested quickly with a shot in the 51st minute of play, making her fourth save of the afternoon.
• In the 61st minute,
Emma Bough put a shot on goal that was followed by a miss wide right from Hähnel.
• Stenlund made her fifth save of the contest in the 66th minute, stopping a shot from Skylar Owens.
• Hähnel would send a shot toward the upper right corner of the goal for the score, giving Niagara a 2-0 lead over SPU in the 69th minute.
Niagara Notes
• Niagara has now won 12 straight against Saint Peter's dating back to 2010.
• Ibey's goal in the 26th minute was her fourth of the season, and 24th of her career. She currently sits three shy of eighth all-time.
• Hähnel scored her first goal as a Purple Eagle in the win.
• Stenlund picked up her second clean sheet of the season.
• Niagara improves to 5-0 when scoring first.
• The Purple Eagles are 2-0-1 in their last three games.
