Swimming & Diving Sweeps Dual Meet with Canisius

2BUFFALO, NY – The men's and women's swimming and diving programs picked up the sweep of Canisius at the Koessler Athletic Center in downtown Buffalo, NY.

The women remain undefeated in dual meets this season after picking up the 199-101 win over the Golden Griffins, while the men started 2022 with a 167-121 defeat of Canisius.

Men's Recap
• The men's 200 free relay of Tanner Isaacs, Levi Morgan, Reid Tichy, Kevin Vu edged out the Canisius quartet by less than a second for the pool record of 1:26.46.
• The men's 200 medley relay of Gio Germano, Isaacs, Vu, and Tichy also won their event with a time of 1:37.20.
• Nathan Dragon placed second in the 1000 free with a time of 10:20.99 and in the 500 free with a time of 4:57.82.
• Tichy placed second in the 200 free with a time of 1:45.33 and first in the 100 free with a time of 47.41, followed by teammate Levi Morgan with a mark of 48.26.
• Germano won the men's 100 back, outswimming the competition by nearly two seconds with a time of 53.44.
• Sean Finley won three events on the day, the 100 breast (1:00.00), 200 breast (2:12.48), and the 200 IM (2:01.65)
• Vu, Dragon, and Levi Morgan took the top-three spots in the 50 free with times of 21.31, 21.54, and 21.57, respectively.
• Benjamin Brkanovic and Noah Brooks secured the top-two spots of the 200 back with 2:00.47 and 2:01.26.
• Diver John Furner took first in the men's 1-meter board with a score of 239.78, while also winning the 3-meter dive with a score of 243. 83.

Women's Recap
• The women set five Koessler Athletic Center pool records, including two relay events.
• Saturday started with the 200 medley relay of Paige South, Kathryn Brady, Zoe Gavin, and Yvonne Shere posted a time of 1:48.85 for the pool record.
• The 200 free relay of South, Wardner, Schere, and Delaney Labue also set a pool record with a time of 1:38.25.
• Brady set the pool's top 200 breaststroke time with a mark of 2:27.51, while South recorded a 100 back time of 58.38 for the Koessler Athletic Center's new best time.
• Megan Smith finished second in the 100 back as she finished the event at 1:00.23.
• Wardner, who has set multiple programs and Oxy Aquatic Center records this season, set the Canisius pool record in the 100 fly with a 2:27.51 finish. She also finished second in the 100 free with a time of 52.85.
• Avery Sanquist, Maggie Marody, and Jill De Reyna went 1-2-3 in the 1000 free with times of 10:56.86, 11:01.01, and 11:30.23.
• Brady (1:08.45), Amanda Silva (1:08.65), and Kayla Kreager (1:10.52) took the top three spots in the 100 breast, the second event of the day the Purple Eagles swept the top three spots.
• The women also swept the top three spots in the 200 fly as Zoe Gavin (2:12.91), Marody (2:13.72), and Allison Stoehr (2:23.26) dominated the competition.
• In the 500 free, Marody placed first with a mark of 5:21.40, while Sanquist finished third with a time of 5:25.67.
• Smith, Brady, and Kreger became the fourth Niagara trio to take the top-three spots in their event, the 200 IM. Smith (2:11.58) edged Brady (2:14.03) for first, and Kreger took the third spot with a time of 2:15.89.
• In the women's 1-meter dive, Sydney Sarkis took second with a score of 227.33, followed by Maggie Hennebaul (196.43), Morgan McMahon (193.65 and Lexi Seelbach (165.00) in third through fifth. Chloe Noah took seventh with a score of 134. 48
• MacMahon was NU's top diver on the 3-meter board, posting a score of 202.65 for third place. Sarkis finished in fourth with a 2000.40, followed by Hennebaul (192.90), Seelbach (157.20), and Noah (133.50).

Coaches Comments
• "It was a complete team effort, from relay to relay and starting with diving last night," said head coach Eric Bugby. "No one person made the difference. It took the 1-2-3 sweeps and the fourth and fifth place points to come away with the wins. It was our toughest week and month of the season, being displaced from our home pool on multiple occasions, but this group, led by our captain's belief, knew they could bounce back. They did just that and then some."

• The Purple Eagles return to the Oxy Aquatic Center on Saturday, Jan. 29, for Senior Day against St. Bonaventure. The dual meet with the Little Three rival is set to start at 1 p.m.
