Swimming & Diving Takes on Canisius

NIAGARA UNIVERSITY, NY – The Niagara men's and women's swimming and diving programs return to the pool this Friday, Jan. 21, and Saturday, Jan. 22, against Canisius. The dual-meet, originally scheduled to take place at Oxy Aquatic Center on the campus of Niagara University, will now be held at the Koessler Athletic Center in downtown Buffalo. 

Firday will be diving only and begin at 5 p.m., while swimmers will compete Saturday starting at 1 p.m. 

Niagara Notes
• The women are 5-0 in dual meets this season, while the men are 1-2 in their head-to-head meets. 
• The Purple and White broke 19 program records at the Zippy Invite in early December, highlighted by Katrina Wardner, who set three individual records (400 IM, 200 IM, 100 Free) and was a member of four relay team records (200, 400, 800 free & 400 medley).
• Warnder also holds the program record in the 100 IM with a time of 59.05 set at home against Nazareth.
Nathan Dragon also set three program records at the Zippy Invite in the 500, 1650, and 1000. He was also a 200 medley relay team member that set a new program-best time. 
• Dragon was named MAAC Swimmer of the Week on Dec. 8, joining John Furner as the two Niagara student-athletes to earn a MAAC weekly award this season. 
• Furner was named MAAC diver of the week on Nov. 3 after scoring a 260.33 on the 3-meter and a 287.55 on the 1-meter against Nazareth. 
• On the women's side, Wardner and Sydney Sarkis were named MAAC Swimmer and Diver of the Week on Oct. 13. 
• Wardner recorded wins in four different events against Binghamton and Siena, including the 50 free, 100 free, and 200 IM with times of 24.52, 53.33, and 2:10.90, respectively. The graduate student was also a member of the 400 free relay team that helped seal the win over Binghamton, with a time of 3:36.20.
• Sarkis set a program record in the 1-meter dive with a score of 251.55 while finishing the 3-meter dive with a score of 215.40 to aid the Purple Eagles in wins over Siena and Binghamton.
• The men's program set a pool record in the 200 free relays against Nazareth earlier this season. The quartet of Kevin Vu, Dragon, Reid Tichy, and Levi Morgan finished with a time of 1:25.90.
• Vu set pool records in the 100 IM and 50 fly during the program's annual alumni meet. 
Lila Maddux also set an Oxy Aquatic Center record with a time of 26.75 in the 50 fly. 
Paige South broke the 100 back program record during the Zippy Invite. South finished with a time of 56.80 to set the new program benchmark. 
Moana Houde-Camirand set the program's 500 free record with a time of 5:05.07 earlier this season.

• The Purple and White will host St. Bonaventure on Saturday, Jan. 29 for Senior Day. The meet starts at 1 PM from the Oxy Aquatic Center.
