Niagara Falls To Fairfield

NIAGARA UNIV., N.Y. – Niagara (6-7, 3-1 MAAC) fell to Fairfield (9-6, 4-0 MAAC) in straight sets on Sunday afternoon.

Match Recap
First Set
  • The Purple Eagles and the Stags traded points to open the set, but Fairfield soon jumped ahead, 13-7.
  • Niagara scored three straight points, including a kill from Mary Redl and a block by Allen and Jaycie Roberts, to cut Fairfield's lead to three, 13-10.
  • The Stags got ahead by four, 18-14, but a kill from Jenna Vogen once again put Niagara within three points of the lead, 18-15.
  • Fairfield, however, went on a 5-0 run to extend its lead, 23-15.
  • Kills from Cassie Seminoff, Laryssa Imbuzeiro and Jessica Streuer brought Niagara back within five, but the Stags scored the final two points they needed to win the set, 25-18.
Second Set
  • The Stags took an 11-5 lead in the second set, but Niagara earned three points, including back-to-back kills from Roberts, to cut the lead to three points, 11-8.
  • Fairfield answered with an 8-2 run to get ahead by nine, 19-10.
  • An attack error from the Stags and an ace from Casey Brown put Niagara within seven points of Fairfield, 19-12.
  • The Stags allowed Niagara just one more point in the set and won the second set, 25-13.
Third Set
  • The Purple Eagles trailed by three early in the set, 7-4, but a service error from the Stags and an ace from Roberts brought them within one-point of the lead, 7-6.
  • The Stags took an 11-8 lead over NU, but a kill from Redl and a block by Allen and Roberts left Niagara trailing by just one point once again, 11-10.
  • Down by two, 14-12, a Stags service error and another ace from Roberts tied the score, 14-14.
  • Fairfield scored four straight points to reclaim the lead, 18-14, but kills from Roberts and Seminoff cut the lead to two, 18-16.
  • With the Stags ahead by two, 21-19, kills from Roberts and Redl tied the score, 21-21.
  • The score was tied two more times, but the Stags went on to win the third set, 25-23, and the match, 3-0.

Eagle's Eye On
  • Roberts led the team in kills with 10 and in aces with two.
  • Amanda Darling had a team-high 17 digs.
  • Redl added nine kills for NU.
  • Streuer had a team-best 17 assists.
  • Allen recorded a team-high three total blocks, including one solo block.
