NIAGARA UNIV., N.Y. – The Purple Eagles (6-6, 3-0 MAAC) remain undefeated in MAAC play after defeating Quinnipiac (2-10, 1-2 MAAC), 3-1 (22-25, 25-19, 25-7, 26-24), on Saturday.
Match Recap
First Set
- The Bobcats went on a 4-0 run to open the set, but Niagara answered with a 4-0 run, including two kills from Mary Redl, one from Jaycie Roberts and one from Cassie Seminoff to tie the score, 4-4.
- Down by just one, 5-4, Niagara scored four straight points, including back-to-back aces from Laryssa Imbuzeiro, to take the lead, 8-5.
- The Purple Eagles led by one, 17-16, before the Bobcats scored three straight points to take a one-point lead, 18-17.
- A kill from Roberts tied the score, 18-18, but the Bobcats took back the lead, 20-18.
- Quinnipiac took a four-point lead, 23-19, but Niagara scored three points to come back within one, 23-22. The Bobcats, however, won the set, 25-22.
Second Set
- The Bobcats took an early 8-5 lead over the Purple Eagles, but Niagara quickly tied the score, thanks in part to a block by Taylor Allen and Sammie Sabra and another ace from Imbuzeiro.
- The Purple Eagles and the Bobcats traded points and Quinnipiac took another three-point lead, 18-15. Three straight Quinnipiac errors, however, tied the score, 18-18.
- The Bobcats took back the lead, 19-18, but the Purple Eagles went on a 7-0 run to close out the set, which included kills from Jessica Streuer, Allen, Roberts and Redl.
Third Set
- Niagara opened the set on a 5-0 run, including two aces from Casey Brown, a kill from Allen and a block by Allen and Redl.
- Up by seven, 10-3, Niagara scored seven straight points, including two kills from Seminoff, one from Imbuzeiro, one from Sabra and ace from Roberts, to extend its lead, 17-3.
- The Purple Eagles allowed the Bobcats just four more points in the set, earning a commanding 25-7 set three win to take a 2-1 lead in the match.
Fourth Set
- The Purple Eagles and the Bobcats went back and forth in the fourth set. With the score tied, 9-9, Niagara scored three straight points to take the lead, 12-9.
- Ahead by two, 16-14, the Purple Eagles earned five straight points, including kills from Allen and Imbuzeiro and an ace from Amanda Darling, to extend their lead, 21-14.
- Niagara had a four-point lead, 23-19, but the Bobcats quickly tied things up, 23-23.
- A kill from Seminoff put NU ahead by one, 24-23, but Quinnipiac once again tied the score, 24-24.
- A service error from the Bobcats put Niagara back ahead and Redl had the match-winning kill as the Purple Eagles won set four, 26-24, and the match, 3-1.
Eagle's Eye On
- Redl had a team-high 12 kills.
- Roberts was just short of a double-double with nine kills and a team-best 26 digs.
- Darling added 25 digs for the Purple Eagles.
- Imbuzeiro had a team-high three aces.
- Seminoff added 14 digs, eight kills and two aces.
- Allen led the team in blocking with five total blocks, including one solo block.
- Streuer had a team-best 20 assists and Brown added 14 assists.
