Vaillancourt Lifts Niagara to 4-1 Win

NIAGARA UNIVERSITY, NY – Junior Florence Vaillancourt recorded her second hat trick of the season to lift Niagara (7-1-0, 1-0-0) to a 4-1 win over Saint Peter's on Sunday in MAAC women's soccer action from Niagara Field.

• Saint Peter's (0-7-0, 0-1-0) opened the scoring with a goal in the 4th minute from Julianna Jatkola.
• Vaillancourt evened the score in the 27th minute with her first goal of the afternoon.
• The game would remain tied heading into halftime. The Purple Eagles out-shot the Peacocks 9-4 in the first 45, including a shot on goal margin of 3-0.
• Niagara scored back-to-back goals in the 64th and 65th minute, both off the foot of Vaillancourt. 
Djeynaba Thiam put the game out of reach in the 78th minute, her fourth goal of the season and second in as many games. 

Niagara Notes
• Head Coach Peter Veltri earned his 200th career win as the head coach of the Purple Eagles.
• Niagara is on a seven-game win streak, its longest since winning eight straight games in 2005. 
• Vaillancourt added three goals to her season total. The junior now leads the MAAC with nine goals.
• Freshman keeper Felicia Grufman made one save on eight shots faced to improve to 4-0 on the season.
Maia MacLean recorded an assist for the second straight game, giving her three on the season.
• Thiam is now tied for second on the Purple Eagles with four goals this season.
