RIVERDALE, N.Y. – The Niagara University women's lacrosse team had its program-tying five-game win streak halted with a goal with six seconds remaining to fall 9-8 to the Manhattan Jaspers on Monday afternoon.
 
SYNOPSIS
Neither team led by more than two goals in the regular-season finale for both squads. The Purple Eagles led 2-0 after goals by Alexandra Leo and Lois Garlow five minutes into the game. Manhattan scored its first goal at the 19-minute to start a 4-1 run. Niagara scored the final two goals of the half to take a 5-4 lead into the break.
 
The Purple Eagles led 7-5 with 14 minutes remaining, but the Jaspers finished the game on a 4-1 scoring run. With the score tied at 8-8, the Jaspers' Carmella Liscio netted the winner with six seconds on the clock.
 
EAGLE'S EYE ON…
  • Alexandra Leo had a team-high three points (two assists and one goal) which is her most since a three-point day against Iona on April 13, 2019. She also had four draw controls.
  • Rachel Crane scored two goals on two shots to share team-high honors in goals.
  • Lexi Braniecki found the back of net twice for her fifth straight two-goal game.
  • Michelle Messenger had seven ground balls which are the most by a Purple Eagle this season.
  • Shea Swartwout added one goal and one assist to go along with season-highs in ground balls with three and caused turnovers with two.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • The five-game win streak was tied for the longest in program history, which was set in 2000.
