LAWRENCEVILLE, N.J. – The Purple Eagles split a doubleheader with the Rider Broncs on Saturday.

Game Recap
  • Game one was a defensive battle between the Purple Eagles and the Broncs.
  • Heather Haberman had a lead-off single in the second inning and was in scoring position after Kelsey Harrigan was walked, but NU was not able to capitalize.
  • Haberman had another lead-off single in the top of the fourth, but she was stranded on base.
  • Two RBI singles from the Broncs put them ahead, 2-0, in the bottom of the fourth inning.
  • Olivia McClain and Rachel Funk had lead-off singles in the sixth and seventh innings, respectively, but the Broncs held the Purple Eagles off to win the game.

Eagle's Eye On
  • Haberman had a team-high two hits.
  • Julia Thompson (0-2) took the loss in the circle. She struck out one and gave up two earned runs in 3.2 innings pitched.
  • Karsen Cotton pitched the final 2.1 innings. She fanned three.

Game Recap
  • In the top of the first, Rachel Funk singled through the right side to score Maggie Vesneske and give NU a 1-0 lead.
  • Rider tied the score, 1-1, in the bottom of the first after scoring on a fielding error by Niagara.
  • An RBI double from Vesneske in the second put Niagara ahead, 2-1.
  • Vesneske batted in another run in the top of the fourth frame to give NU a two-run lead, 3-1.
  • Shayna Myshrall hit a two-RBI double in the sixth to add to the Purple Eagles' lead, 5-1.
  • In the top of the seventh, Maggie Kellner hit her first career triple, scoring Avianna Peterson and cementing the 6-1 win for NU.

Eagle's Eye On
  • Vesneske, Funk and Harrigan had three hits each. Harrigan had two doubles.
  • Vesneske and Myshrall each had two RBIs.
  • Riley Crum (2-1) earned the win. She pitched a complete game, striking out one and giving up just one run.
