NIAGARA UNIV., N.Y. – The Purple Eagles split a doubleheader to open their series with Quinnipiac on Friday.
Game Recap
  • A three-run homerun and an RBI single from the Bobcats in the top of the first gave them a 4-0 lead over the Purple Eagles.
  • In the bottom of the first, a groundout from Shayna Myshrall gave Maggie Vesneske time to score, leaving the Purple Eagles trailing by just three, 4-1.
  • The Bobcats doubled their score, 8-1, in the top of the fifth inning after a sacrifice fly, an RBI single and a two-RBI double.
  • Samantha Hare scored in the bottom of the fifth to cut the Quinnipiac lead to six, 8-2.
  • In the bottom of the sixth, a two-RBI infield single from Vesneske halved the Bobcats' lead, 8-4, but Niagara was not able to overcome them in the seventh inning and fell to Quinnipiac in game one.

Eagle's Eye On
  • Vesneske, Hare, Rachel Funk and Heather Haberman each had one hit for the Purple Eagles.
  • Vesneske led the team in RBIs with two.
  • Riley Crum (2-2) took the loss. She struck out two in 6.0 innings pitched.

Game Recap
  • The Purple Eagles got on the board in the bottom of the first frame, taking a 1-0 lead after a sacrifice fly from Funk.
  • In the bottom of the third, Funk reached base on a fielder's choice and Vesneske had enough time to score to give Niagara a 2-0 lead over the Bobcats.
  • An RBI double from Hare and an RBI single from Vesneske in the fourth innings extended Niagara's lead, 4-0.
  • Quinnipiac scored three runs in the top of the sixth to come within one run of Niagara's lead, 4-3, but Hare scored an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth.
  • The Purple Eagles held off the Bobcats in the seventh to earn the 5-3 victory.

Eagle's Eye On
  • Vesneske and Kelsey Harrigan led the team in hits with three each. Kaity McInall added two hits, one of which was a triple.
  • Vesneske had a team-high two stolen bases.
  • Julia Thompson (1-2) picked up the win. She fanned four in 5.1 innings pitched.
  • Crum earned her first save of the season. She struck out one and did not give up any hits in 1.0 inning pitched.
