Women’s Swimming & Diving Defeats YSU and SFU, Men Fall to YSU

YOUNGSTOWN, OHIO – The Niagara women dominated the competition on Saturday, picking up wins over Youngstown State (204-96) and Saint Francis (199-95). The men fell to Youngstown (95-195).

Women's Recap
• The women's day started with a 200 medley relay win. The relay team of Paige South, Amanda Silva, Katrina Wardner, and Nianna Thomas finished with a time of 1:49.18 to edge out the Saint Francis quartet. 
• The women also won the 400 free relay with a time of 3:37.69. Thomas once again anchored the Purple Eagle quartet. South, Moana Houde-Camirand, and Lila Maddux were also members of the relay team.
Avery Sanquist picked up a win in the 1000 free with a mark of 10:39.16, finishing more than 10-seconds ahead of the competition. The time is the best in the MAAC this season. Sanquist also took second place in the 500 free with a mark of 5:11.91.
• Wardner continued her fast start to the season with a win in the 200 free (1:53.82), 50 free (24.60), and 100 fly (57.34). The Orchard Park, NY native now holds the top times in the conference for both the 200 free and 100 fly. Her 50 free time is second-best among MAAC swimmers.
• Maddux and Thomas finished second and third in the 50 free to help Niagara sweep the top three spots. Maddux finished in 24.81, and Thomas clocked in at 25.02.
• Niagara also took the top four spots in the 100 free, headed by Wardner. Thomas finished second, followed by Houde-Camirand and Maddux in third and fourth.
• South also picked up two individual wins to go with her two relay wins. The Ohio product won the 100 back with a time of 59.14 and the 100 free with a mark of 54.04.
Zoe Gavin won the 200 fly with a time of 2:10.26. She finished second in the 100 fly behind Wardner with a time of 59.39.
Sydney Sarkis was the Purple and White's top diver on the day – finishing third on the 3-meter board with a score of 237.45. She placed fourth with a mark of 230.18 in the 1-meter dive. 
Morgan Macmahon also had a solid day on the boards, finishing with a combined score of 319.12, highlighted by a 210.23 score on the 1-meter.
• Silva and Kathryn Brady finished second and third in the 100 breast, finishing the event in 1:08.31 and 1:08.89, respectively. 
Megan Smith placed second in the 200 back 2:09.09 to keep Saint Francis from sweeping the top-three spots in the event.
• Brady finished second in the 200 breast with a time of 2:25.18, followed by teammate Kayla Kreager with a time of 2:29.45.
• Smith and Brady finished first and second in the 400 IM with times of 4:38.79 and 4:43.79. Kreager finished fourth in the event with a time of 4:48.30.

Men's Recap
• The men opened the day with a second-place finish in the 200 medley relay as Gio Germano, Sean Finely, Kevin Vu, and Levi Morgan finished the event in 1:36.83.
• Niagara dominated the 100 back, taking the top four spots. Germano finished first with a time of 53.75, followed by Benjamin Brkanovic (55.70), Noah Brooks (56.83), and Josiah Shaffer (56.93).
• Finley won the 200 breast with a time of 2:12.63. 
Nathan Dragon finished fourth in the 1000 free with a time of 10:13.89.
• The men took third through sixth in the 200 free, highlighted by Reid Tichy's 1:47.75 time for third place. 
Dalton Stier finished third in the 200 fly with a time of 1:59.89.
• Finley and Tanner Isaacs finished third and fourth, respectively. Finley finished in 1:00.33, narrowly behind the second-place finisher. Isaacs finished in 1:00.39.
• Vu finished third in the 50 free with a time of 21.41 and took second place in the 100 fly with a time of 50.72.
• Reigning MAAC Diver of the Week, John Furner finished third in the 3-meter 252.68 and third in the 1-meter dive with a score of 223.13.
• Brkanovic took second in the 200 back with a 2:00.14, followed by Noah Brooks (2:01.01), Shaffer (2:06.18) and Anderson Chemey (2:06.23) in third through fifth.
• Tichy, Vu, Morgan and Dragon finished second in the 400 free relay with a time of 3:11 .94.

Up Next
• The Purple and White will be in Akron, Ohio, when they participate in the Zippy Invite on Dec. 3-5 hosted by the University of Akron.
