Niagara Earns Victory Over Air Force

NIAGARA UNIV., N.Y. – In their first home game in front of fans in over 600 days, the Purple Eagles (2-5-0, 2-1-0 AHA) earned a 4-3 come-from-behind victory over the Air Force Falcons (2-5-0, 0-1-0 AHA) on Friday.

Game Recap
First Period
  • Niagara got on the board less than one minute into the game, with Albin Nilsson scoring his first goal as a Purple Eagle in Dwyer Arena to give NU a 1-0 lead. Ryan Naumovski and Walker Sommer earned the assists.
  • Less than one minute later, Air Force scored on a power play to even the score, 1-1.
  • The Falcons extended their lead, 2-1, after scoring about four minutes into the period.
  • A little under six and a half minutes into the period, Niagara was on the power play. Ryan Naumovski netted a goal, assisted by Nilsson and Mike Faulkner, to tie the score, 2-2.
  • The Purple Eagles took 10 more shots on goal in the period and the teams were knotted at two goals apiece heading into the first intermission.
Second Period
  • Jon Hill, Zac Herrmann, Naumovski, Jack Zielinski and Nilsson all had strong chances for the Purple Eagles within the first nine minutes of the second period, but none of their shots found its target.
  • A little over 14 minutes into the period, the Falcons scored to reclaim the lead, 3-2.
  • Nilsson had a late opportunity for the Purple Eagles on a power play, but his shot was saved and Niagara went into the third period trailing by just one goal, 3-2.
Third Period
  • The Purple Eagles came out strong in the third period, taking nine shots on goal within the first 11 and a half minutes to put pressure on the Falcons' defense.
  • Nilsson scored his second goal of the game 12:40 into the period on a rebound to tie things up once again, 3-3. Naumvoski and Josef Mysak had the helpers on the score.
  • Luke Edgerton scored the game-winner for the Purple Eagles with under one and a half minutes remaining in the period. He was assisted by Shane Ott and Ryan Cox.

Eagle's Eye On
  • Nilsson led NU in scoring with two goals. It was his first multi-goal game of the season. He also led the team in shots on goal with seven.
  • Nilsson (two goals, one assist) and Naumovski (one goal, two assists) each earned three points.
  • Niagara led in shots on goal, 33-28, and in blocked shots, 14-4.
  • Jason Pineo had a team-high four blocks.
  • Chad Veltri (2-2-0) made 25 saves on the night, including a game-high 13 saves in the second period.
