Purple Eagles Defeat Cazenovia, 95-55

NIAGARA UNIV., N.Y. – The Purple Eagles defeated Cazenovia, 95-55, in an exhibition game at the Gallagher Center on Monday.

Game Recap
First Half
  • The Purple Eagles went on a 7-2 run to open the half, including five points from Sam Iorio.
  • Justin Roberts hit three 3-pointers between 12:28 and 11:26 to help give Niagara a 20-9 lead over the Wildcats.
  • A jumper from Rob Brown III and another trey from Roberts gave NU an 11-point lead, 25-14, with a little over 11 minutes left in the half.
  • Four points from Jordan Cintron and five more from Iorio put Niagara ahead, 34-18.
  • Roberts hit two more threes in the first half and Niagara led the Wildcats, 42-25, going into halftime.
Second Half
  • Four points from Brown III, three from Cintron and Noah Thomasson and two from Marcus Hammond and Nicholas Kratholm put Niagara ahead, 58-31, a little over four minutes into the second half.
  • A 3-pointer from Hammond extended the Niagara lead, 61-34.
  • Tahjae Hill hit a triple to give Niagara a 69-38 advantage over the Wildcats.
  • A bucket from Touba Traore kicked off a 12-0 run from NU, which also included two more 3-pointers from Roberts, a jumper from Hill and a layup from Kratholm, and gave the Purple Eagles a 41-point lead, 81-40.
  • With 5:15 to go, Brown III sank a three to keep NU in the lead, 90-44.
  • Iorio made a 3-point shot with a little under three and a half minutes to go to put Niagara ahead of the Wildcats, 93-47.
  • Hill scored the final points of the game for NU and Niagara defeated the Wildcats, 95-55.

Eagle's Eye On
  • Roberts went 8-for-10 from the 3-point line and scored a team-high 24 points.
  • Iorio led the team in rebounding with eight rebounds and added 15 points.
  • Hammond added 13 points and seven rebounds for the Purple Eagles.
  • Shandon Brown led the team in assists with nine and Thomasson dished out six helpers.
  • Brown III led NU in steals with three and also had nine points. Cintron also added nine points.
  • The Purple Eagles scored 46 points off the bench and 42 points in the paint.
