NIAGARA UNIV., N.Y. – The Purple Eagles (11-12, 8-6 MAAC) defeated Manhattan (2-16, 2-12 MAAC), 3-0 (25-21, 25-11, 25-21) on Sunday.
Match Recap
First Set
- Niagara and Manhattan were tied, 6-6, when the Purple Eagles scored five straight points, including three aces and kills from Jaycie Roberts and Taylor Allen, to take an 11-6 lead.
- Kills from Roberts, Mary Redl, Imbuzeiro and Jacki Schmitz kept NU ahead by three, 17-14, but the Jaspers earned four straight points to claim the lead, 18-17.
- A kill and solo block from Allen put Niagara back on top, 19-18.
- Ahead by one, 21-20, a kill from Allen and an ace from Bella Peroni extended NU's lead to three points, 23-20, and the Purple Eagles went on to win the set, 25-21.
Second Set
- Ahead by one, 4-3, the Purple Eagles went on a 5-0 run, including two kills from Redl and an ace from Casey Brown, to extend their lead, 9-3.
- The Jaspers scored two points to come within four, 9-5, but two kills from Roberts, one from Cassie Seminoff and an ace from Redl gave the Purple Eagles and eight-point lead, 13-5.
- After allowing Manhattan one point, NU earned four straight points, including two more kills from Seminoff, to remain ahead, 17-6.
- The Purple Eagles maintained control of the rest of the set, with Roberts, Jenna Vogen and Seminoff each adding a kill, and NU won set two, 25-11.
Third Set
- Niagara and Manhattan went back and forth to open the set and, with a one-point lead, 6-5, two kills from Roberts and one each from Lexi Bapst and Allen extended NU's lead, 10-5.
- With a four-point lead over the Jaspers, 12-8, Niagara scored four straight points, including kills from Allen, Redl and Seminoff, to extend its lead to eight, 16-8.
- Manhattan came within four points of the NU lead, 17-13, but an attack error from the Jaspers and an ace from Brown put Niagara ahead by six, 19-13.
- A block by Redl and Imbuzeiro and an attack error from the Jaspers have Niagara a 21-14 lead, but the Jaspers went on a 6-1 run to come within two points of the Purple Eagles, 22-20.
- The Purple Eagles, however, allowed the Jaspers just one more point and won the set, and the match, on an ace from Roberts.
Eagle's Eye On
- Redl had her second straight double-double with 10 digs and a team-high 13 kills.
- Brown also had a double-double with 12 digs, which was tied with Peroni for team-high, and 15 assists.
- Brown and Imbuzeiro each had a team-best three aces.
- Roberts added nine kills and 11 digs.
- Allen had nine kills.
- Jessica Streuer recorded 14 assists.
