NIAGARA UNIV., N.Y. – The Niagara volleyball tea (10-12, 7-6 MAAC) defeated Iona (7-15, 5-8 MAAC) in straight sets on Saturday. Prior to the start of the match, the Purple Eagles honored their graduating class; Jessica Streuer, Jacki Schmitz, Jaycie Roberts, Mary Redl and Sarah Weiby.

Match Recap
First Set

• The Gaels took the lead in the first set, quickly getting ahead of the Purple Eagles, 10-4.
• A kill from Laryssa Imbuzeiro brought Niagara within five points of Iona, 10-5.
• Down by seven, 13-6, Niagara scored three straight points, including a kill from Streuer and an ace from Roberts, to cut the Iona lead to four, 13-9.
• The Gaels scored four straight points to get ahead, 17-9, but the Purple Eagles answered with a 6-0 run, which included two kills from Schmitz and a block by Schmitz and Imbuzeiro. Niagara trailed by just two, 17-15.
• A kill from Imbuzeiro and an attack error from the Gaels tied the score, 19-19.
• Down by just one point, 21-20, kills from Redl and Roberts and a block by Schmitz and Taylor Allen put Niagara in the lead, 23-21.
• A kill from Redl on set point earned the Purple Eagles a 25-22 first set victory.

Second Set

• Kills from Allen, Redl, Roberts and Imbuzeiro and an ace from Schmitz helped the Purple Eagles to an 8-5 lead in the second set.
• Iona earned four consecutive points to take the lead, 9-8, but a kill from Roberts tied the score, 9-9.
• Tied once again, 11-11, back-to-back kills from Redl put Niagara ahead by two, 13-11.
• Kills from Redl and Imbuzeiro and an ace from Schmitz gave Niagara a four-point lead, 16-12.
• The Gaels went on a 6-1 run to reclaim the lead, 18-17, but a kill from Roberts tied things up, 18-18.
• Down by one point, 20-19, NU earned three straight points to take the lead, 22-20.
• A kill from Allen kept NU up by two, 23-21, but the Gaels scored twice to tie the score, 23-23.
• Back-to-back attack errors from Iona, however, gave the Purple Eagles a 25-23 set two victory and a 2-0 match advantage.

Third Set

• The Purple Eagles and the Gaels went back and forth to begin the third set. Trailing by two points, 8-6, the Purple Eagles score four straight, including two kills from Roberts and one from Cassie Seminoff, to take a 10-8 advantage over Iona.
• The Gaels scored two points to tie the score, 10-10, but kills from Seminoff and Roberts and an ace from Streuer put Niagara back in the lead, 13-10.
• Up by three, 18-15, a kill from Imbuzeiro and an attack error from the Gaels extended NU's lead to five points, 20-15.
• Consecutive kills from Redl earned Niagara the final two points it needed to win the set, 25-20, and the match, 3-0.

Eagle's Eye On

• Redl had a double-double with a team-high 17 kills and a career-high 20 digs.
• Roberts recorded her 15^th double-double of the season with 14 kills and 17 digs.
• Streuer also had a double-double with 11 digs and a team-high 16 assists.
• Amanda Darling led the team in digs with 25.
• Schmitz had a career-high four blocks, two aces and four kills. Her four blocks and two aces were a team-high.
• Kelly McArthur added 11 assists.
