Niagara Falls To Quinnipiac In Four Sets

HAMDEN, Conn. – The Purple Eagles (9-12, 6-6 MAAC) fell to the Quinnipiac Bobcats (8-14, 7-6 MAAC), 3-1 (17-25, 25-23, 16-25, 12-25), on Sunday.

Match Recap
First Set
  • The Purple Eagles and the Bobcats went back and forth in the first set. Trailing by one, 9-8, Niagara earned three straight points thanks to two kills from Cassie Seminoff and a solo block from Laryssa Imbuzeiro to take the lead, 11-9.
  • The Bobcats answered with three straight points to reclaim the lead, 12-11, but a kill from Mary Redl tied things up, 12-12.
  • Quinnipiac got ahead by two points, 16-14. A kill from Taylor Allen kept the Purple Eagles within one point of the lead, 16-15.
  • The Bobcats, however, allowed NU just two more points as the Purple Eagles dropped the first set, 25-17.
Second Set
  • The Bobcats took an early 7-4 lead over the Purple Eagles, but three straight points, including a block by Kelly McArthur and Jaycie Roberts and a solo block by Allen, tied the score, 7-7.
  • Trailing by five, 15-10, a kill from Redl and a ball-handling error on the Bobcats put Niagara within three points of the lead, 15-12.
  • The Bobcats extended their lead to six, 19-13. A kill from Roberts, a Quinnipiac attack error and a block by Roberts and Allen put Niagara back within three, 19-16.
  • Another kill from Redl and a block by Allen and Roberts left NU trailing by just one point, 20-19.
  • The Bobcats took a two-point lead, 21-19, but two kills from Allen and an ace from Roberts put the Purple Eagles in the lead, 22-21.
  • With the score tied, 23-23, kills from Redl and Lexi Bapst gave NU the two points it needed to win the set and tie the match, 1-1.
Third Set
  • The Purple Eagles and the Bobcats were tied, 3-3, when Quinnipiac went on a 7-0 run to take the lead, 10-3.
  • Niagara answered with four straight points, including a kill from Roberts, a block by Imbuzeiro and an ace from Seminoff, to cut the Quinnipiac lead to three, 10-7.
  • The Bobcats went on a 7-1 run to extend their lead, 17-8.
  • Trailing by eight, 19-11, a block by Redl and an Allen and a kill from Redl put Niagara within six points of the Bobcats, 19-13.
  • Seminoff had two kills and Imbuzeiro had one in the remainder of the set, but Quinnipiac took the third set, 25-16, to take a 2-1 match lead.
Fourth Set
  • Kills from Seminoff and Roberts opened the fourth set, but the Bobcats quickly took the lead, 10-4.
  • Another kill from Redl, a block by McArthur and Imbuzeiro and an error from Quinnipiac left Niagara trailing by just three points, 10-7.
  • Quinnipiac scored five straight points to extend its lead over NU, 15-7.
  • Kills from Redl and Imbuzeiro and a service error from the Bobcats kept Niagara within seven, 17-10.
  • The Bobcats, however, controlled the remainder of the set, allowing Niagara just two more points (kills from Allen and Roberts), to win the set, 25-12, and the match, 3-1.

Eagle's Eye On
  • Jessica Streuer had a double-double with a team-high 17 assists and 15 digs.
  • Redl led the Purple Eagles in kills with 11.
  • Roberts was just shy of a double-double with nine kills and 14 digs.
  • Imbuzeiro led the team in total blocks with five. Allen and McArthur each added four total blocks.
  • Amanda Darling had 11 digs and seven assists.
  • Allen added seven kills for NU, while Seminoff had six.

  • The Purple Eagles return to the Gallagher Center next weekend to host Iona on Saturday, Oct. 30 at 1:00 p.m. and Manhattan on Sunday, Oct. 31 at 12:00 p.m.
