Purple Eagles Earn 3-2 Win Over Fairfield

NIAGARA UNIVERSITY, NY – Niagara (9-2-0, 3-1-0 MAAC) defeated visiting Fairfield Saturday afternoon by the final score of 3-2 in MAAC women's soccer action from Niagara Field. Emma Bough, Maia MacLean and Emma Davies each found the back of the net in the win.

Game Recap
• Niagara got on the board first in the fourth minute of action when  Bough beat the out-stretched leg of the Fairfield goalie for her first goal of the season.
• Later on, in the first half, Ida Miceli worked the ball upfield, finding Djeynaba Thiam just outside the box who then found MacLean for the score, giving Niagara a 2-0 lead in the 36th minute.
• The Purple Eagles would remain on top at the break. Sophomore keeper Clara Bornet made one of her four saves in the first half to help keep the Stags off the board.
• Fairfield would cut the lead in half in the 48th minute as Elle Scott beat Bornet to make the score 2-1.
• Niagara would get the goal back just over five minutes later when Davies scored her second goal of the game. MacLean was awarded the assist, her third point of the contest.
• The Stags would again trim NU's lead to just one as Maddie Kiely found the back of the net to make the score 3-2.
• Fairfield would keep the pressure on in the final minutes of the match, but the Niagara defense would hold on for the win.

Game Notes
• Following today's result, the Purple Eagles are now 4-1 in games decided by one goal.
• Following Saturday's MAAC women's soccer results the Purple and White sit atop the league standings with nine points.
• With one goal and one assist today, MacLean moves her season totals to seven and four, respectively.
• Thiam, who scored Niagara's lone goal on Wednesday kept her point streak alive with her assist today. The Rochester, N.Y., native has now registered at least one point in each of the last five games and seven of the last nine.
• Niagara's five assists today are a season-high for the Purple Eagles.
