NIAGARA UNIV., N.Y. – The Purple Eagles volleyball team (9-10, 6-4 MAAC) defeated Saint Peter's (1-20, 0-10 MAAC), 3-0 (25-12, 25-14, 25-17), on Sunday.
Match Recap
First Set
- The Purple Eagles went on an 8-0 run to open the first set, including four kills from Mary Redl, two from Cassie Seminoff, one from Taylor Allen and a block by Allen and Seminoff.
- Niagara allowed the Peacocks one point before two kills and a block from Seminoff and Laryssa Imbuzeiro put the Purple Eagles ahead by 10, 11-1.
- The Purple Eagles continued to dominate the set and a kill from Jaycie Roberts put them ahead by 11 points, 20-9.
- The Peacocks scored three straight points to cut Niagara's lead to eight, 20-12, but a kill from Redl, back-to-back blocks from Redl and Imbuzeiro, an ace from Amanda Darling and a Saint Peter's error earned NU the set one victory, 25-12.
Second Set
- The Purple Eagles trailed the Peacocks by one, 2-1, in the beginning of the second set but a Saint Peter's service error, a kill from Redl and back-to-back aces from Darling put NU ahead, 5-2.
- Up by two, 7-5, Niagara scored four straight points, including two kills from Roberts, to extend its lead over Saint Peter's, 11-5.
- With a 16-10 advantage over the Peacocks, Niagara went on a 6-0 run, which included two kills from Seminoff, one from Jessica Streuer and Allie Simpson and a block by Simpson and Redl, to take a 12-point lead, 22-10.
- The Purple Eagles allowed the Peacocks just four more points and won the set, 25-14.
Third Set
- A kill from Streuer and an ace from Roberts opened the set for the Purple Eagles.
- Ahead by one, 3-2, four straight points from NU, including another kill from Redl and two from Lexi Bapst, extended the Niagara lead, 7-2.
- Ahead by two points, the Purple Eagles went on another 4-0 run, including an ace and a kill from Redl and a kill from Bapst, to extend their lead to six, 18-12.
- The Peacocks scored two points before the Purple Eagles scored five straight points, including two kills from Roberts and one from Kelly McArthur, to take a 23-14 lead.
- Saint Peter's scored three straight points, but the Purple Eagles scored the tow points they needed to win the set, 25-17, and the match, 3-0.
Eagle's Eye On
- Roberts recorded her 13th double-double of the season with 13 kills and 12 digs.
- Darling had a team-high 22 digs and three service aces.
- Redl added 13 kills and a team-high four total blocks.
- Streuer led the Purple Eagles in assists with 18. McArthur added 10 assists.
