Purple Eagles Split Season Series With Marist

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – The Purple Eagles (7-10, 4-4 MAAC) split their season series with Marist (11-9, 6-3 MAAC) after falling to the Red Foxes, 3-1 (24-26, 26-24, 24-26, 26-28), on Sunday.

Match Recap
First Set
  • Kills from Laryssa Imbizeiro and Jaycie Roberts opened the set for the Purple Eagles.
  • Ahead by one, 2-1, the Purple Eagles scored three straight points, capped by kills from Imbuzeiro and Roberts, to take a 5-1 lead over Marist.
  • Kills from Roberts and Cassie Seminoff kept NU ahead by four, 8-4.
  • The Purple Eagles led by three, 10-7, when the Red Foxes went on a 4-0 run to take the lead, 11-10. A block from Imbuzeiro and Mary Redl quickly tied the score, 11-11.
  • One more kill each from Imbuzeiro and Roberts helped the Purple Eagles get back ahead, 14-12, but Marist scored four straight points to reclaim the lead, 16-14.
  • The Purple Eagles and the Red Foxes went back and forth. Down by two, 23-21, kills from Redl, Seminoff and Roberts put Niagara back in the lead, 24-23.
  • Marist, however, scored the three points it needed to win the set, 26-24.
Second Set
  • The Purple Eagles took an early 8-4 lead in the second set.
  • The Red Foxes scored three straight points to come within one point of the lead, 8-7, but Niagara earned four straight points to extend its lead, 12-7.
  • The Red Foxes answered with a 4-0 run to come back within one, 12-11, but a block from Jessica Streuer and Taylor Allen and an attack error from Marist kept NU ahead, 14-11.
  • Marist scored five straight points to take the lead, 16-14, but Niagara answered with four straight points, including an ace from Streuer, to reclaim the advantage, 18-16.
  • Marist scored four points once again to get ahead, 20-18.
  • Down by two, 24-22, the Purple Eagles scored four straight points to close out the set. NU won set two, 26-24, and tied the match, 1-1.
Third Set
  • The Purple Eagles and the Red Foxes went back and forth to open the third set. Marist took a three-point lead, 17-14, but a kill from Roberts and a Marist error put NU within one point od the lead, 17-16.
  • Trailing by just two points, 19-17, the Purple Eagles scored three points, including an ace from Seminoff and a kill from Redl, to take the lead, 20-19.
  • The Red Foxes tied the score, 20-20, but a kill from Redl and a solo block from Allen put Niagara back ahead, 22-20.
  • The Purple Eagles were ahead by one, 24-23, but Marist scored three points to win the set, 26-24.
Fourth Set
  • The Red Foxes took an 11-6 lead over the Purple Eagles, but a kill from Roberts, a block by Imbuzeiro and Streuer and an error from the Red Foxes put NU within two points of the lead, 11-9.
  • Marist took a three-point lead, 16-13, but a kill from Redl, a solo block from Streuer and a Red Fox error tied the score, 16-16.
  • The Red Foxes took the lead, 23-19, but Niagara earned four straight points to tie the score again, 23-23.
  • The Purple Eagles and Marist traded points, with two kills from Redl keeping things tied, 26-26, but the Red Foxes scored the points they needed to win the set, 28-26, and the match, 3-1.

Eagle's Eye On
  • Roberts, Redl and Streuer all recorded double-doubles. Redl had a career-high, and team-high, 17 kills and also added 13 digs. Roberts had 12 kills and 17 digs and Streuer had 14 digs and a team-best 36 assists.
  • Amanda Darling led the team in digs with 21.
  • Imbuzeiro led the team in blocking with six total blocks. She also added a career-high 10 kills.
  • Seminoff added 16 digs and seven kills.
