Kobi Nwandu notched his second straight 20-point game with a game-high 20 points as the Purple Eagles fell to the Monmouth Hawks, 77-67, on Friday.
Game Summary
The Purple Eagles, who have played seven of their last nine games on the road, returned to the Gallagher Center where they were 3-1 this season to start a stretch of four straight home contests. Niagara welcomed a Monmouth Hawks team that has won four straight games.
Niagara jumped out to a 4-0 lead, but Monmouth outscored NU, 31-10, for a 31-14 lead with four minutes left in the opening half. The Hawks made 9 of 15 shots, including five 3-pointers, during the run that lasted 13 minutes.
Nwandu connected on a 3-pointer at the buzzer to cut the deficit to 41-26 at the break. The 3-pointer started an 18-8 run for the Purple Eagles as they trailed 49-41 with 14:50 left. However, the Hawks increased their lead back to 17 points with a 10-1 run in three minutes as NU trailed 59-42 with 11 minutes remaining.
Monmouth's lead hovered in double digits until a 7-0 spurt by the Purple Eagles cut the lead to 73-65 with a minute remaining.
Eagle's Eye On…
- Kobi Nwandu led all scorers with 20 points on 6 of 12 shooting from the field and went 7-for-8 at the charity stripe.
- Nicholas Kratholm snatched a game-high 10 rebounds for his second 10-rebound game of the season and scored 10 points for his first career double-double.
- Greg Kuakumensah scored 10 points for the second consecutive game.
- Raheem Solomon added 10 points in 16 minutes.
