Hammond played high school basketball at Benjamin N. Cardozo High School in Bayside, N.Y. He helped lead the Cardozo High Judges to a 30-2 mark this past season, while averaging 15 points, seven assists and five rebounds in the regular season. In the playoffs, Hammond continued to be a dynamic force, averaging 17 points, six assists and four rebounds per game in the postseason. On Feb. 17, Hammond recorded 25 points, eight assists and five rebounds en route to leading his team to a 64-55 victory in the Public School Athletic League (PSAL) Queens Borough championship game. A month later on March 17, Hammond followed that performance with 21 points, including 5-for-7 from 3-point range, and five rebounds in the PSAL AA Championship, where Cardozo fell at the Barclays Center to Brooklyn-based South Shore, 78-66.
