Kobi Nwandu scored his 1,000
th career point as the Purple Eagles dropped a 58-49 decision to the Manhattan Jaspers on Friday.
Game Summary
Manhattan rode the 3-pointer to build a 12-point lead in the first half. The Jaspers, who made 8 of 15 triples in the half, used a 14-2 run to lead 20-8 with 9:36 on the clock. However, the Purple Eagles reeled off a 19-5 run, which was spearheaded by
Kobi Nwandu, in seven minutes. The York, Pa. native scored eight points during the run, including recording his 1,000
th career point. Defensively, the Purple Eagles caused six turnovers while holding the Jaspers to 2 of 10 shooting during the run.
Nwandu completed his second 3-point play of the half to give NU a 30-28 lead with one minute left, before the Jaspers ended the half on a 5-0 spurt for a 33-30 lead into the break.
Manhattan's run continued in the second half as the Jaspers outscored the Purple Eagles, 14-2, for a 47-32 lead with eight minutes remaining in the contest. The Purple Eagles cut the deficit to seven points by going on an 8-0 run to trail 47-40 heading into the final five minutes. Manhattan's Marques Watson drained a corner 3-pointer to halt Niagara's run and Samir Stewart connected on a 3-pointer for a 53-42 Manhattan advantage with 1:46 remaining.
Eagle's Eye On…
- Kobi Nwandu led NU in scoring for the fourth time this season, finishing with 12 points to be in double figures for the tenth straight game.
- Marcus Hammond scored 10 points to reach double figures scoring for the ninth straight game.
- Jordan Cintron led NU in steals with four and in assists with three, while chipping in nine points.
- Greg Kuakumensah tied a season-high in rebounds with a team-high seven.
Inside The Numbers
- Kobi Nwandu scored his 1,000th career point at the free-throw line to complete a three-point play at the 7:23 mark. Nwandu, who is playing in his first season as a Purple Eagle, scored 450 points at East Stroudsburg (2016-18) and 414 points at LeMoyne (2018-19).
- Niagara outscored Manhattan in points in the paint (20-18) and points off turnovers (19-14).
