RIVERADLE, N.Y. – The Purple Eagles fell to the Manhattan Jaspers, 77-59, in a nationally televised contest on ESPNU on Friday night.
Game Summary
Raheem Solomon opened the scoring with a layup 28 seconds into the game. It was Niagara's only lead on the night as Manhattan answered by scoring five straight points.
The Purple Eagles trailed 19-9 after ten minutes, but used a 9-3 spurt in a five-minute span to cut the lead to 22-18. Manhattan, then, outscored Niagara 7-3 over the next two minutes.
Nick MacDonald made three straight free throws to trim the deficit to 31-25 with one minute remaining in the half. The Jaspers' Samir Stewart hit a 3-pointer to give Manhattan a 34-25 halftime lead.
Niagara got off to a fast start in the second half. A
Shandon Brown jumper at the 17:57 mark trimmed Manhattan's lead to 38-32. However, the Jaspers reeled off a 13-4 run for a 51-36 lead with 12 minutes left. Niagara cut the Jaspers' lead to 51-41, but Manhattan answered with another run. The Jaspers outscored the Purple Eagles, 12-1, to increase their lead to 21 points with 8:30 remaining. Niagara scored the game's final seven points.
