Late Push Falls Short As NU Falls To Fairfield

NIAGARA UNIV., N.Y. – Despite a late push, the Purple Eagles fell to Fairfield, 77-65, on Thursday night in the Gallagher Center.

Game Recap
First Quarter
  • The Purple Eagles took an early 8-4 lead thanks to four points from Dagny Davidsdottir and two points from both Adia Brisker and Jai Moore.
  • The Stags took the lead, 9-8, but a bucket from Emerald Ekpiteta put NU back ahead, 10-9, with a little over six minutes to go in the first quarter.
  • Fairfield, however, began to pull away late in the quarter and led the Purple Eagles, 25-14, going into the second quarter.
Second Quarter
  •  Moore hit her first three of the game with about eight and a half minutes to go in the first half to cut Fairfield's lead to 13 points, 30-17.
  • Brisker scored three points and Moore added two more points in the quarter and at the half, the Stags led the Purple Eagles, 42-22.
Third Quarter
  • Moore made two consecutive threes to open the third quarter. Two points from Sydney Faulcon capped an 8-0 run for NU which left them trailing by 14, 44-30.
  • With about 2:45 left in the quarter, Moore made her fourth triple of the game, cutting Fairfield's lead back to 13 points, 53-40.
  • The Stags made a bucket to get ahead, 55-40, but Niagara closed out the quarter on an 8-0 run, including four points from both Moore and Ekpiteta, to leave NU trailing by just seven points, 55-48.
Fourth Quarter
  • The Purple Eagles extended their run to 10 straight points with a bucket from Angel Parker and Niagara was within striking distance of the Stags, 55-50, early in the fourth quarter.
  • A fifth three from Moore kept the Purple Eagles within five points of Fairfield, 57-52, with about seven minutes left in the game.
  • The Stags went on a 7-0 run, taking a 64-52 lead over NU, before Moore made her sixth 3-pointer of the game, leaving NU trailing by just eight points, 64-56.
  • Fairfield, however, maintained the lead for the remainder of the game, despite a seventh trey from Moore with just a few seconds left in the game, and the Stags came away with the 77-65 victory in the teams' first meeting of the season.

Eagle's Eye On…
  • Moore led all scorers with 29 points. She made seven 3-pointers, tying her career-high. Moore went 7-for-10 overall from the 3-point line.
  • Brisker added 12 points for the Purple Eagles.
  • Ekpiteta led the team in rebounding with five rebounds. She also added 10 points.
  • Moore and Jordan Edwards led Niagara in assists with three each.
  • Morgan Baughman had a team-high two steals.
  • Baughman and Valentina Pepic each brought down four rebounds.
