BUFFALO, N.Y. – The Purple Eagles fell to Canisius, 78-56, on Monday night to split the annual Battle of the Bridge series.

Game Recap
First Quarter
  • Jai Moore opened scoring for the Purple Eagles in the first quarter with a step-back three to give NU the early one-point lead, 3-2.
  • Niagara led, 5-4, but the Griffs went on a 9-0 run to take the lead, 13-5.
  • A bucket from Emerald Ekpiteta and a triple from Morgan Baughman left NU trailing by just six points, 16-10, with about 3:15 left in the quarter, but the Griffs scored seven unanswered points to extend their lead, 23-10.
  • Maggie McIntyre sank a three with less than 30 seconds to go but Canisius led, 25-13, going into the second quarter.
Second Quarter
  • Canisius went on a 5-0 run to open the quarter but two points from Moore and another trey from Baughman put the Purple Eagles within 12 points of the lead, 30-18.
  • Buckets from Jordan Edwards and Valetnina Pepic cut the Griffs' lead to 11, 36-25, with about 2:45 left to play but Canisius was ahead, 42-27, at the half.
Third Quarter
  • McIntyre dominated the third quarter for the Purple Eagles, scoring 10 of their 14 total third quarter points. She made two 3-pointers.
  • Baughman and Edwards combined for the other four points in the quarter and Niagara trailed the Griffs, 63-41, after 30 minutes of play.
Fourth Quarter
  • The Purple Eagles went on a 5-0 run to open the fourth quarter, including a 3-point play from Kyra Grimshaw, to cut Canisius' lead to 63-46 with a little under eight and a half minutes left to play.
  • Angel Parker added three points in the remainder of the quarter, while Ekpiteta and Claire Wanzer each added one bucket.
  • McIntyre hit another triple with about 40 seconds remaining, but it was not enough to overcome the Griffs' lead as Niagara fell to Canisius, 78-56.

Eagle's Eye On…
  • McIntyre led the Purple Eagles in scoring with 16 points. She also led the team in steals with three.
  • Moore added nine points and Baughman and Ekpiteta each scored eight points.
  • Ally Haar brought down a team-high five rebounds.
  • Edwards dished out a team-high three assists.

  • The Purple Eagles close out their home schedule against Quinnipiac on Thursday, March 5 at 7:00 p.m. The game will be broadcasted on ESPN+.
