DURHAM, N.C. – The Purple Eagle bats were hot as Niagara defeated NC Central, 9-6, in the final game of a three-game series on Sunday.

Game Recap
  • An RBI single and a sacrifice fly gave NC Central a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning, but Niagara quickly answered.
  • In the top of the second, a solo homerun from Joseph Tevlin halved the Eagle lead, 2-1. A double from Dawson Bailey plated Spencer Marcus to tie the score, 2-2, and a sacrifice fly from Max Giordano scored Cole Tucker to put the Purple Eagles in the lead, 3-2.
  • An RBI single from Giordano in the top of the fourth frame extended Niagara's lead to two runs, 4-2.
  • In the bottom of the fourth, a solo homerun from the Eagles left them trailing Niagara by one, 4-3.
  • NC Central reclaimed the lead, 6-4, in the sixth inning thanks to an RBI double and a two-run homerun.
  • In the top of the seventh, Giordano continued to dominate at the plate, doubling to left field to score Bailey. An RBI single from Michael Gabriele and a sacrifice fly from Cole O'Connor put the Purple Eagles back on top, 7-6.
  • Bailey smacked a solo homerun out of the park in the top of the eighth and Benny Serrano went yard in the top of the ninth, giving NU the 9-6 lead.
  • The Purple Eagles held off the Eagles in the bottom of the ninth to earn to series win.

Eagle's Eye On…
  • Bailey, Giordano and Marcus each had two hits, one double and two runs scored.
  • Giordano led the team in RBIs with three and Bailey had two RBI.
  • Chaz DeLuca started on the mound. He fanned five and allowed five hits and two earned runs in 4.1 innings pitched.
  • Mascellino earned the win. He struck out three and gave up three hits and two earned runs.
  • Zapata-Baez earned his second save of the series, striking out one and giving up one hit in 1.0 inning pitched.
