NIAGARA UNIV., N.Y. – The Purple Eagles defeated Monmouth, 62-61, in the final seconds of Thursday night's game thanks to a 3-point play from Jai Moore.

Game Recap
First Quarter
  • Morgan Baughman opened scoring in the first quarter, hitting a 3-pointer to give NU the quick lead.
  • Four points from Emerald Ekpiteta, two from Moore and a triple from Maggie McIntyre kept Niagara ahead, 12-10, with a little under five and a half minutes to go.
  • Monmouth went on a 5-0 run to take the lead, 15-10.
  • Ekpiteta added two more points and Baughman hit another trey but the Hawks led, 20-17, at the end of the first quarter.
Second Quarter
  • The Purple Eagles had a phenomenal second quarter, outscoring the Hawks, 21-7.
  • McIntyre drained three straight 3-pointers, turning the tide for the Purple Eagles and putting them ahead of the Hawks, 30-25.
  • Valentina Pepic added six straight points to close out the quarter and Niagara led Monmouth, 38-27, going into halftime.
Third Quarter
  • Ekpiteta scored to open the third quarter and give Niagara a 13-point lead, 40-27, but the Hawks went on a 7-0 run to cut the lead to six, 40-34.
  • Ekpiteta added four more points to put NU ahead, 44-36, with a little over five minutes to go in the third.
  • The Hawks scored six straight points, cutting Niagara's lead to two points, 44-42, but the Purple Eagles led at the end of the quarter, 52-48.
Fourth Quarter
  • With under eight and a half minutes to go in the game, the Hawks made a 3-pointer to take the lead, 53-52.
  • Buckets from Ekpiteta and Adia Brisker put Niagara ahead by one, 56-55, with about 5:10 left to play.
  • The Hawks reclaimed the lead, 59-56, but Baughman drained another three to tie the score, 59-59.
  • With about 15 seconds remaining in the game, Moore scored two to tie things up, 61-61. She was fouled on the bucket, sinking the and-1 to earned the Purple Eagles the one-point win and the season sweep of the Hawks.

Eagle's Eye On…
  • This is the first time the Purple Eagles have swept the season with the Hawks since the 2013-14 season.
  • Ekpiteta led the Purple Eagles in scoring and rebounding with 18 points and seven rebounds.
  • McIntyre added 12 points and Moore had 11 points.
  • McIntyre and Moore led the team in assists with four each.
  • Pepic had a team-high two steals.

  • The Purple Eagles host Manhattan at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 22. Niagara will celebrate its graduating seniors prior to the start of the game.
