Crimson Top Purple Eagles To Close Out Road Trip

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Niagara women's lacrosse team fell at Harvard by a 15-3 score on Sunday afternoon.

Game Recap
  • Harvard went up by a 3-0 score before Shea Swartwout converted on a free position shot to make it a 3-1 game with 12:29 remaining in the first half.
  • Trailing 11-1 eight minutes into the second half, the Purple Eagles swapped goalies, bringing Michelle Messenger off the bench. Messenger made two big saves in her first two minutes on the field, denying the Crimson to regain possession for the Purple Eagles.
  • Niagara capitalized on the ensuing possession. After Swartwout's free position shot was saved, Lucy Rugaber picked up the ground ball and buried it to set the score at 11-2 with 19:06 left in regulation.
  • With 4:13 left in regulation, Jenna Brill's first goal of the game – and fifth of the weekend – made it 14-3 Harvard.

Defensive Spotlight
Coach's Corner
  • Head coach Wendy Stone: "We were a step slow today throughout the midfield and on the offensive end. Our defenders and goalies stepped up and weathered the offensive power of Harvard. We will work to be better when we take on Merrimack at home on Thursday."

Up Next
  • The Purple Eagles come back to Monteagle Ridge for their home opener on Thursday, February 20. Niagara will square off against Division I newcomer Merrimack at 1 p.m.
