Game Recap
  • Benny Serrano had the first hit of the game, doubling to right field in the top of the first. Michael Gabriele reached base on a throwing error from Florida State's shortstop and Serrano advanced to third, but Niagara was not able to capitalize as Peter Battaglia lined into a double play to end the top half of the inning.
  • Florida State came in with bats blazing in the bottom of the first with four RBI singles, a two RBI double and a walk with bases loaded. The Seminoles led Niagara, 7-0, at the end of the first inning.
  • With bases loaded in the bottom of the second, a Seminole batter was walked, extending their lead to 8-0 and, in the bottom of the third inning, an RBI double put the Seminoles ahead by 10, 10-0.
  • In the top of the fifth, Mike Brisson singled for the first hit of his collegiate career. Joseph Tevlin reached base on a Seminole error, putting Brisson into scoring position but a fielder's choice sent Tevlin back to the dugout and stranded Brisson.
  • Florida State tacked on another run in the bottom of the eighth inning to take an 11-0 lead over Niagara.
  • In the top of the ninth, with two outs on the board, Battaglia doubled down the left field line, keeping the Purple Eagles alive. Max Giordano was the next batter up and, after initialing signaling a strikeout for the Seminoles, the call was reversed and called a foul tip for Giordano. Giordano then singled to the pitcher, advancing Battaglia to third base. Battaglia scored on a wild pitch to prevent a shutout, but the Seminoles got the final out to come away with the series win.
