TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The Niagara baseball team suffered a 24-4 setback in its second game against Florida State on Saturday afternoon.

Game Recap
  • In the bottom of the first, Chaz DeLuca set the Seminoles down in order, getting a pop up and fly out before finishing off the frame with a strikeout.
  • After the Seminoles scored eight runs in the bottom of the second, the Purple Eagles came right back to tighten the gap in the top of the third. A leadoff walk by Dawson Bailey quickly paid off when Benny Serrano doubled down the left field line to score him. The very next batter, Michael Gabriele, then brought Serrano in after an error by the shortstop.
  • With the score 16-2 entering the fifth, Serrano led off the inning with a four-pitch walk. Peter Battaglia then took a first-pitch swing and homered to right field to make it 16-4.
  • In the bottom of the fifth, Florida State threatened to add to its lead by getting runners to second and third, but Jordan Parranto held fast, getting the final batter to hit into a grounder to second base.

Eagle's Eye On…
  • Parranto went 2.0 innings out of the bullpen, allowing just four hits and one run while striking out three batters.
  • Battaglia's home run gave him two RBI and helped him go 1-3 on the day.

Up Next
  • The Purple Eagles will try to win the series against the Seminoles on Sunday, Feb. 16. First pitch – originally scheduled for noon – was moved up to 10 a.m. due to impending weather.
