JERSEY CITY, N.J. – The Purple Eagles started their MAAC slate with a 70-54 defeat against the Saint Peter's Peacocks on Friday night.
 
Game Summary
The Purple Eagles were unable to find their shooting touch against the staunch defense by the Peacocks.
 
Kobi Nwandu, who scored 11 of Niagara's 21 first-half points, made consecutive baskets as NU trailed 8-6 five minutes into the game. Baskets by Nwandu and Nicholas Kratholm brought Niagara to 18-14 at the 7:30 mark. However, Saint Peter's used a 9-2 run to build a 27-16 lead with 4:36 left in the half. Saint Peter's went into halftime leading 32-21.
 
The Peacocks maintained a double-digit lead for the rest of the game while countering each Niagara push with points on their next possession. Niagara shot over 42 percent in the second half, but the Peacocks connected on 53 percent of their shots and made 6 of 10 3-pointers in the second frame.
 
Eagle's Eye On…
  • Kobi Nwandu posted season-highs in scoring and in rebounding to lead the Purple Eagles. He scored 14 points and grabbed seven rebounds.  
  • Justin Roberts netted 13 points, including a game-high three 3-pointers.
  • Greg Kuakumensah chipped in 12 points on 5 of 10 shooting.
