NIAGARA UNIV., N.Y. – The Purple Eagles defeated crosstown rival Canisius, 81-62, on Monday night to earn two Battle of the Bridge points.

Game Recap
First Quarter
  • Canisius took an early 5-0 lead in the first quarter, but two free throws from Dagny Davidsdottir and a triple from Maggie McIntyre tied things up, 5-5.
  • The Griffs got ahead once again, 10-6, but four straight points from Davidsdottir tied the score, 10-10, and a bucket from Jai Moore gave Niagara its first lead of the game, 12-10.
  • The Purple Eagles and the Griffs were tied, 12-12, going into the second quarter.
Second Quarter
  • With a little over four and a half minutes to go in the first half, the Purple Eagles and the Griffs were tied once again, 20-20.
  • Davidsdottir and Adia Brisker each added four points in the remainder of the quarter but Niagara trailed Canisius, 33-28, at halftime.
Third Quarter
  • The Purple Eagles picked up momentum in the second half, going on a 9-0 run, including five points from Brisker, to open the third quarter and take a 37-33 lead over the Griffs.
  • With a little under four minutes to go, Moore sank a three and followed that up by converting a 3-point play to give Niagara a seven-point lead, 49-42.
  • A trey from Morgan Baughman with less than a minute to go put Niagara ahead, 57-48, and kicked off a 6-0 run for the Purple Eagles to close out the third quarter.
  • The Purple Eagles outscored the Griffs 32-15 in the third quarter and NU led Canisius, 60-48, going into the fourth quarter.
Fourth Quarter
  • Moore was on fire in the fourth quarter, scoring 16 points overall, including two 3-pointers.
  • Niagara went on a 9-0 run late in the quarter to take an 81-60 lead over the Griffs.
  • The Purple Eagles allowed the Griffs just one more bucket as Niagara came away with the 81-62 victory.

Eagle's Eye On…
  • Moore led all scorers with 30 points, just two short of her career-high. Moore scored 28 of those points in the second half. She made 13 field goals to tie her career-high.
  • Brisker led the team in rebounding with eight rebounds. She also added 15 points, which was just one point shy of her career-high.
  • Davidsdottir scored 12 points, which was just one short of her career-best. She also brought down seven rebounds.
  • Baughman led the Purple Eagles in assists with four.
  • Niagara scored 40 points in the paint and 20 points off of turnovers.

  • The Purple Eagles are back on the road, taking on Siena on Thursday, Jan. 30 at 7:00 p.m. and Marist on Saturday, Feb. 1 at 7:00 p.m. Both games will air on ESPN3.
