WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. – Marcus Hammond notched his first career double-double with a team-high 21 points and  team-high 10 rebounds as the Purple Eagles fell at the Monmouth Hawks, 82-71, on Friday night to snap a three-game win streak.  
 
Game Summary
The Purple Eagles faced a 20-5 deficit six minutes into tonight's contest as the Hawks made 8 of their first 12 shots. Trailing 24-9 at the 12:21 mark in the first half, the Purple Eagles soared into the lead behind a 21-4 explosion in a nine-minute span. Five different Purple Eagles scored during the run, which included a string of 13 straight points. A James Towns layup at the end of the run gave NU its first lead of the game at 30-28 with 2:40 remaining in the half.
 
The Purple Eagles, who trailed 34-33 at halftime, used a 5-1 spurt three minutes into the half to take a 38-37 lead. However, the Hawks answered with an 8-0 run over the next 1:34. Niagara chipped away at the lead and eventually cut it to 55-53 with 10:30 left on a four-point play by Marcus Hammond.  Monmouth once again responded with a run to build a 10-point lead which the Hawks maintained over the final five minutes.

Eagle's Eye On…
  • Marcus Hammond recorded his first career double-double with a team-high 21 points and a career-high 10 rebounds.
  • James Towns scored 16 points and grabbed seven rebounds.
  • Nicholas Kratholm set career-highs in points with 11 and in rebounds with eight. Kratholm swatted a game-high three shots to set a new career-high.

  • NU outscored Monmouth in paint points (28-26) and bench points (31-23).
