NIAGARA UNIV., N.Y. – The Purple Eagles defeated the Saint Peter's Peacocks, 97-89, in the Gallagher Center on Thursday. It was Niagara's highest scoring game since December 28, 2004, when NU defeated Colgate, 99-76.
Game Recap
First Quarter
- The Purple Eagles went on a 4-0 run to open the game and after a three from Angel Parker gave Niagara a five-point lead, 11-6, with a little under five and a half minutes to go in the first quarter.
- Buckets from Valentina Pepic, Maggie McIntyre and Emerald Ekpiteta gave NU a 17-12 lead, but Saint Peter's went on an 8-0 run to close out the quarter and led narrowly, 20-17, going into the second quarter.
Second Quarter
- A free throw from Jai Moore and a bucket from Jordan Edwards tied the score at 20 points apiece with over nine and a half minutes to go in the first half.
- The score was quickly tied again, 22-22, but two more points from Ekpiteta and eight straight points from Moore put Niagara back in the lead, 32-28.
- With a little less than two and a half minutes to go in the quarter, two points from Morgan Baughman off a steal gave NU an eight-point lead, 38-30.
- The Purple Eagles remained in control and led the Peacocks, 45-36, going into halftime.
Third Quarter
- Ekpiteta and Dagny Davidsdottir each scored four points to contribute to the Purple Eagles' 8-0 run to open the third quarter, giving Niagara a 53-36 lead.
- Niagara allowed the Peacocks 13 points before going on a 15-0 run, which included six points from Ekpiteta, five from Baughman and two from both Adia Brisker and Moore.
- Niagara had a commanding 74-58 lead at the end of the third quarter.
Fourth Quarter
- Sydney Faulcon scored four straight points for the Purple Eagles early in the fourth quarter to give Niagara a 78-61 lead.
- The Peacocks came back within eight points of the Purple Eagles late in the game, but Niagara held on to win it, 97-89.
Eagle's Eye On…
- Ekpiteta led all scorers with a career-high 26 points. She made a career-high 12 field goals. She also led the team in assists with four and added seven rebounds.
- Moore added 20 points and six rebounds.
- Brisker led the Purple Eagles in rebounds with eight.
- Ekpiteta and Baughman led the team in steals with three each.
