Moore Drops 32 Points in NU's Victory At Monmouth

WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. – Jai Moore dropped a career-high 32 points as Niagara defeated Monmouth in the OceanFirst Bank Center for the first time since 2015 on Saturday.

Game Recap
First Quarter
  • The Hawks went on a 9-0 run to open the game, but a trey from Ally Haar got the Purple Eagles on the board with about seven minutes remaining in the quarter.
  • With Monmouth leading 14-5, the Purple Eagles went on a 9-0 run, including seven points from Jai Moore, to tie the score, 14-14.
  • A 3-point play from Morgan Baughman and a bucket from Adia Brisker gave Niagara a 19-17 lead over the Hawks at the end of the first quarter.
Second Quarter
  • Two points from Sydney Faulcon, Emerald Ekpiteta and Moore and a 3-pointer from Jordan Edwards kept the Purple Eagles ahead, 28-23, with a little under five minutes remaining in the first half.
  • Monmouth, however, went on a 6-0 run to take a one-point lead, 29-28, with three minutes to go.
  • Four points from Moore gave Niagara the lead, 32-31, but the Hawks led by one going into halftime, 33-32.
Third Quarter
  • Edwards sank a three to open scoring for NU in the third quarter and keep Niagara down by just one point, 36-35.
  • A bucket from Ekpiteta gave Niagara the lead, 37-36, but the Hawks quickly got back on top, 40-37.
  • An 8-0 run from the Purple Eagles, including six more points from Moore, gave NU a five-point lead, 45-40.
  • Dagny Davidsdottir had four points in the quarter and Maggie McIntyre and Baughman both made threes to give the Purple Eagles a 53-45 advantage going into the fourth quarter.
Fourth Quarter
  • Four points from Moore and two from Ekpiteta and Edwards gave Niagara its largest lead of the game, 61-50, with a little less than six and a half minutes to go in the game.
  • The Purple Eagles led 64-55 before the Hawks went on a 6-0 run to trail by just three points, 64-61.
  • Five points from Moore extended NU's lead, 69-64, but a triple from the Hawks with about 26 second left put them within two points of the Purple Eagles, 69-67.
  • McIntyre sank two free throws before Monmouth hit another three with just 14 seconds left to trail the Purple Eagles by just one point, 71-70, but Niagara held on to win, with another bucket from Moore giving the Purple Eagles the three-point win.

Eagle's Eye On…
  • Moore led all scorers with a career-high 32 points off a career-best 13 field goals.
  • Edwards added 10 points for her second straight game scoring in double figures. She led NU in steals with four, tying her career-high.
  • Moore, Ekpiteta and Baughman each had a team-best five rebounds
  • Edwards and McIntyre both had three assists.

  • Niagara begins a three-game home stand, hosting Saint Peter's on Thursday, Jan. 23 at 7:00 p.m. and Rider on Saturday, Jan. 25 at 1:00 p.m. before welcome crosstown rival Canisius to the Gallagher Center on Monday, Jan. 27 at 7:00 p.m. All three games will air on the ESPN Family of Networks.
