FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Niagara University women's soccer team opened its conference schedule with a 5-1 setback at Fairfield on Saturday.

SYNOPSIS
An early goal coming on a penalty kick for the Stags set the tone for the game as the Purple Eagles never settled into the match. The Stags led 3-0 after 30 minutes and scored their fourth early in the second half. Fairfield added its fifth in the 52nd minute with another penalty kick. The Purple Eagles scored a consolation goal in the 78th minute with Emma Lindke scoring her first goal of the season.

MOMENTS
  • 2' – Fairfield opened the scoring on a penalty kick
  • 12' - Kelsey Araujo nearly tied the game when she had a one-on-one with the keeper but her shot was denied.
  • 13' –  The en suing corner kick featured a shot by Hailey Bicknell that was blocked and an attempt by Florence Vailancourt which went high.
  • 25' – Fairfield scored its second on a header from a corner kick
  • 27' – Two minutes later, the Stags added their third.
  • 47' – The Stags struck again, two minutes into the second half with a free kick goal.
  • 52' – Fairfield scored its fifth goal of the game and its second from the penalty spot.
  • 78' – The Purple Eagles scored their first goal of the game when Hailey Bicknell found Emma Lindke in the box.
