Harrigan, Timm Lead Offense In Split

SAINT BONAVENTURE., N.Y. – The Niagara softball team's four-game win streak came to an end at the hands of the Saint Bonaventure Bonnies on Thursday afternoon. The Purple Eagles dropped game one, 4-1, but regrouped to win the second game, 6-4.

Saint Bonaventure 4, Niagara 1
  • Kelsey Harrigan got the Purple Eagles off to a roaring start, taking the game's second pitch for a ride on a solo home run.
  • The Niagara defense put together 1-2-3 innings in the second and sixth to help quell the Bonnies' bats.
  • Harrigan finished the game 3-for-4 and Maggie Vesneske went 2-for-4 to account for five of the team's six hits.
  • Emily Johnston worked 2.0 innings in relief, allowing just one hit while striking out three batters to keep Saint Bonaventure off the board.

Niagara 6, Saint Bonaventure 4
  • Harrigan picked up right where she left off in the first game, doubling in the first at-bat of the contest. She then took third base on a wild pitch before an error by the shortstop allowed her to score and get Niagara up, 1-0.
  • The Purple Eagles added two more runs in the third when Jennifer Timm knocked a bases-loaded double to score Kendall Watkins and Jerri Ann Orfano.
  • Timm got Niagara's fourth run across by plating Bella Garone from second base with a single up the gut.
  • After the Bonnies tied the game at 4-4 in the bottom of the sixth, Niagara reclaimed the lead permanently in the top of the seventh. A walk to Rachel Funk started things off before Timm swatted a single into shallow center to advance Funk. A walk to Jennifer Szilagyi loaded the bases for Harrigan, who singled to plate both Funk and Timm.
  • Niagara had 10 hits in the outing, with Timm going 3-for-4 to lead the offense. Watkins went 1-for-3 but added two walks to get aboard three times.
  • Karsen Cotton entered in relief to earn the win in 3.1 innings of work. She gave up six hits and two runs while fanning four batters.

On Deck
  • Niagara closes out its regular season at home on Saturday and Sunday against Quinnipiac and Marist, respectively. Saturday's matchup with the Bobcats will also be Senior Day, with a pregame ceremony starting around 11:40 a.m. with first pitch slated for noon.
