MAAC play continues this weekend for the Niagara softball team. The Purple Eagles will host Siena on Saturday before trekking down the I-190 to take on Canisius in the Battle of the Bridge.

Niagara Notes
  • In their most recent outing, the Purple Eagles dropped both ends of their doubleheader against Youngstown State on April 3. The Penguins won game one, 8-3, then escaped the second game with a 6-5 victory after a darkness-shortened six innings.
  • Having gone 8-14 in her last five games (.571), Jerri Orfano reclaimed the top spot on the team's stat sheet with a .283 batting average on the season. Since March 29, Orfano has three RBI.
  • Sierra Bertrand has thrown 46.0 innings this season, spanning 11 appearances and eight starts. So far, she has racked up 47 strikeouts and holds a 5.33 ERA.

Scouting The Saints
  • Siena is coming off a midweek sweep of Sacred Heart at home. The Saints won the first game, 5-4, and took the finale, 3-1.
  • With 25 hits in 56 at-bats this season (.446), Madysen Cossack is the Saints' leading batter in terms of batting average. Her 14 RBI, 12 walks, .714 slugging percentage, and nine extra-base hits are also team-highs.
  • Maddie McMahon's 3-5 record in the circle is the best among Siena's five regular pitchers. Her 4.49 ERA trails Brooke Hughes as the second-lowest on the staff.
  • Last season saw Niagara and Siena split in Loudinville, New York. The Purple Eagles took the first game of the doubleheader, 6-1, but Siena responded with a 3-0 win in game two.

Scouting The Golden Griffins
  • The Griffs hosted Syracuse on April 3 and dropped the lone game by a 9-6 count. In the last 14 games, Canisius is 4-10, but 2-2 against MAAC schools after being swept by Monmouth and then sweeping Rider.
  • Erin Hufford (.397) and Kara Paradowski (.375) are the only Canisius batters with a batting average above .300.
  • Brittany Sockwell has accounted for 20 of the team's 76 RBI (26 percent).
  • Niagara swept last season's Battle of the Bridge meeting in dominating fashion. Bertrand threw a complete-game shutout and Kelsey Harrigan smacked a leadoff home run in the first to lift the Purple Eagles to a 3-0 win in the opener. In the second game, Jennifer Szilagyi and Emily Johnston combined to allow just two hits and four walks while fanning seven batters as they breezed to a 4-0 triumph.
