Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Seven Different Scorers Not Enough To Top Saints

LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. – Senior attack Rachel MacCheyne continued to chip away at the record book, setting yet another mark by winning her 112th draw control of the season, the most ever by a Purple Eagle. Despite getting goals from seven different players – including two from MacCheyne – the Niagara women's lacrosse team was beaten, 12-9, on the road against Siena.

Game Recap
  • Rachel MacCheyne opened the scoring 4:09 into the game with a free position goal that put Niagara up, 1-0.
  • The two sides traded goals over the next four minutes, with Caroline Crump and Alexis Morales providing the responses for the Purple Eagles.
  • After three straight scores by Siena to take the lead, Hailey D'Hont made it a 5-4 game midway through the opening half.
  • The Purple Eagles closed out the first with two goals, the first a man-up, free position strike by MacCheyne, and the second a Crump-assisted strike by Jenna Brill with three minutes to go before halftime.
  • Audrey Fithall opened the second half and gave Niagara its third unanswered goal on a free position attempt that tied the game up at 7-7.
  • The Saints struck for three unanswered goals and went up 10-7 Shea Swartwout unloaded a pass from Fithall and found the back of the net with 14 minutes left in regulation.

Milestones Met
  • With 40 goals on the year, MacCheyne now owns the 10th most successful season in program history. Her first goal of the day tied Megan McNerney's 2001 total of 39, while her second passed that total and gave her sole possession of 10th place.
  • MacCheyne also set a new program mark for the most draw controls in a season. With six on the day, she overtook Alexandra Higgins' 2017 count (111) to set the new mark at 117.

Up Next
  • Quinnipiac will be the site of the Purple Eagles' next game. The Bobcats will host Niagara on April 6 at 12 p.m.
