Purple Eagles Erase Nine Goal Deficit To Stun Bobcats

 
HAMDEN, Conn. – Trailing 11-2 nearing halftime at Quinnipiac, the Niagara women's lacrosse team mounted an ferocious comeback to earn its first MAAC win in extraordinary fashion. Fueled by 11 second half goals, the Purple Eagles came out victorious, 15-14.
 
Game Recap
  • Caroline Crump netted Niagara's first two goals, the second of which got the Purple Eagles to within 4-2.
  • Two straight Rachel MacCheyne free position goals halted a 7-0 run for the Bobcats and made it 11-4 after the first half.
  • Hailey D'Hont, Crump, and MacCheyne combined for four goals in eight minutes to open the second half and pull the Purple Eagles to within three.
  • With the score 13-8 Quinnipiac, Shea Swartwout, Crump, and MacCheyne each poured in a goal in 1:48 to make it a two-goal game with 13 minutes left in regulation.
  • A free position goal from the Bobcats put the lead back to three, but MacCheyne's sixth tally of the day pulled the Niagara deficit back to two.
  • Crump added her fifth of the game with 7:33 on the clock to trim Quinnipiac's lead to one.
  • The game was leveled for the first time at 14-14 by Shea Swartwout with just over five minutes remaining.
  • After nearly four minutes of scoreless action, Alex Leo's first of the day proved monumental, as it gave the Purple Eagles a 15-14 advantage with 79 seconds to play.

  • Head coach Wendy Stone: "We could not be more proud of the effort and the fight that our team showed today. We battled back as a team, and finished the game. We look forward to building on this win as we head into facing Marist on Wednesday."
 
Milestones Met
  • Caroline Crump earned her 45th career caused turnover to join the top 10 in program history.
  • With six goals today, MacCheyne jumped up to 55 points on the year, vaulting her into the top 10 and settling into the eighth-most productive season ever by a Purple Eagle in terms of points.
  • Lauren Paul tied Kara Martin's 2017 total of 20 caused turnovers in a season, a top 10 mark.
