With four matchups in the next six days, the Niagara softball team will be busy in the final week of the regular season with contests at longtime rivals Buffalo and Saint Bonaventure.

Niagara Notes
  • The Purple Eagles are coming off a weekend sweep of the Saint Peter's Peacocks and the Manhattan Jaspers. Niagara has now won six straight MAAC games as well as five of their last six overall games.
  • Over the course of the weekend, 10 Purple Eagles batters came to the plate with the bases loaded. In those 10 plate appearances, the team went 4-5 with 12 RBI, highlighted by a Kendall Watkins grand slam in the first game against the Jaspers.
  • Bertrand racked up 14 strikeouts in 15.0 innings, allowing just four runs (three earned) on five hits as the Purple Eagles went 5-1 last week. In MAAC play, the lefty senior posted a 1.40 ERA, went 2-0 and added a save to lead Niagara in the circle.
  • Orfano batted .476 (10-21) and put up seven RBI with two home runs in Niagara's 5-1 week. The senior first baseman went yard against both Saint Peter's and Manhattan, including a three-run blast against the Jaspers.

Scouting The Bulls
  • UB's weekend series with Kent State was cancelled due to poor field conditions at Nan Harvey Field. Their most recent contest came on April 24 when they played a single game against Saint Bonaventure, run-ruling the Bonnies, 12-3, to snap a five-game skid.
  • Anna Aguon leads the Bulls offensively, hitting .395 with 18 RBI and five home runs in 38 games.
  • Ally Power's 5.40 ERA is the lowest on the squad. In 135.0 innings, Power has accrued 86 strikeouts with opposting hitters batting .318 against her.

Scouting The Bonnies
  • The series will be the third and fourth games of the year between the two sides. Niagara opened its season against the Bonnies in March at the University of Hawai'i, dropping both games, 3-1 and 2-1.
  • Saint Bonaventure has dropped nine of their last 10 games, with the lone win in that span coming in the first game of a doubleheader at George Mason on April 27.
  • The Bonnies' leading batter is Alexandra Piergustavo. Through 39 games, she's pieced together a .292 batting average and collected 15 RBI.
  • Ally Haskell and Rylee Hehir have each started 13 games in the circle for the Bonnies. Haskell has a team-best 6.17 ERA while Hehir's 49 strikeouts lead the staff.
