The Niagara softball team will host the Akron Zips for a midweek, non-conference doubleheader on Wednesday afternoon from the Niagara Softball Field.
 
Niagara Notes

• The Purple Eagles are coming off a split weekend with Iona and Fairfield. On April 13, the Gaels swept Niagara, but the following day saw Niagara take both games from Fairfield.
• Kendall Watkins' big weekend put her at 19 RBI on the season, most on the team. She is batting .200 on the year with seven of her 14 hits going for extra bases.
• Sierra Bertrand (4.11) and Jennifer Szilagyi (4.65) both have sub-5.00 ERAs. The two hurlers have combined for 105 strikeouts in 118.2 innings pitched.
• The Purple Eagles' last victory over Akron came on April 7, 2011 when the Zips were swept in two games on Monteagle Ridge. Since then, Akron has taken each of the teams' last 11 meetings, including the most recent doubleheader on April 26 at Niagara Softball Field.

 
Scouting The Zips

• The Zips have lost 18 of their last 20 games, most recently suffering a three-game sweep at the hands of the Ohio Bobcats. Akron was run-ruled in each of the series' final two games.
• Sydney Jascoe leads the Zips with a batting average of .396. She also has a team-high nine home runs and 26 RBI.
• Sisters Adrian and Amaya Smith lead the pitching staff with ERAs of 5.16  and 5.73, respectively.
